Hacked, or sell account?

I'm sure you don't care either way.

Probably hacked, unless my roommate took over the account...but I don't think he did, or he'd have asked me for the passwords.

I went in and changed all the passwords and such, and changed the passwords on my e-mail account, too, just in case. Not sure how this machine could have picked anything up (security in this place is pretty fucking tight), but I'm running all the checks I know how to run until tech support wakes up and takes over.

Looks like they paid for me to have another month sometime this morning, and I'm guessing from what I'm seeing on my armory that you saw them vendoring/auctioning everything off via my druid, who looks to be naked according to the armory.

Your Pal,
Jubber

Me too, the whole time I was active, I never had a single security issue. I quit and all of a sudden I'm hacked?

I am most suspicious of this. It has a very...maybe if we can make him care enough to report this, and he has a free month to play, we can lure him back to us...vibe to it. That may be perfectly normal paranoia talking, though.

I'm still scanning my shit, but so far, no trojans, viruses, or anything of that nature, the firewall thing here is pretty pimp (we have a Barracuda spam firewall in place somehow...not even going to ask) and my IT-employed roomies have all the security on this thing set to "Death Star." Doesn't make anything fool-proof, but I think I might have to call shenanigans later if nothing shows up on this PC.

Definitely very strange.

Your Pal,
Jubber

You're spending too much time with Aestu if you're thinking blizz is 'hacking' their own players accounts in order to get them back.

Someone could have had your password for months, logging in, seeing you're still playing and not actually getting in game. It makes a lot of sense from a hacker's standpoint to wait until you've quit (which they would know when they try to log in), you're less likely to notice it immediately and might not even care. Blizz usually catches it if they're doing something big on your account, but the hackers may take their time, thinking they've got longer until someone does something about it.

You shouldn't keep your password as 12345.

That might make sense if not for the fact that most people who have their accounts hacked are actively playing. I'm going to wait for the professional analysis before I say for sure, but given what I ran here this morning, this machine is clean, and I don't click on the sort of stupid that lets assholes hijack your shit. No one else knew the passwords. There is no evidence on this end that supports the idea that I was hacked. The items sold off/sharded on my account were completely random...only two characters were stripped. My mage, who could d/e, was still wearing one purple, despite the current cost of maelstrom crystals (which I will assume may have dropped now that we have troll dungeons) and a couple of blues. The things pulled out of various guild banks made no sense (the only thing that even remotely had value that was pulled from Last Chance Rejects was a few Heart of Fire).

In short, someone sophisticated enough to hack your account would probably be a bit more sophisticated about stripping it bare for its full value.

Aside from that, I think I totally already called myself for paranoid thinking when I said it.

Your Pal,
Jubber

The gold the hacker withdrew was apparently restored, so presumably, your items were as well, for what it matters.

And Dvergar, while I doubt Blizzard is actually hacking customer accounts, the purpose behind banwaves is indisputably to inflate the subscription count and force people to buy more licenses.

Greetings,

Account Name: NUCLEOKINESIS
Realm: Bleeding Hollow
Character Name: Aestu
Guild Name: Deliciously Trashy

Gold Restored: 75g 0s 0c

It has come to our attention that your guild bank had items removed without the guild's consent, resulting in item theft.

We are very happy to inform you that we were able to assist your guild in this particular case.

Please keep in mind that In-Game Support will review reported guild bank theft, but that restoration for any such losses are not guaranteed. We strongly recommend that guild withdrawal limitations are set to be more conservative to help prevent incidents like this occurring in the future. While we will make every effort to verify and restore your loss, the decision to go forward with a restoration is entirely at Blizzard's discretion.

You will find the item(s) already in your character's inventory or in the mailbox as an attachment. If the item(s) was lost due to an accidental sale, the appropriate amount of money will be charged. If you do not pay the COD to retrieve the item from the mail, and the mail expires, unfortunately your restoration will be forfeit.

Please note that items with random modifiers (of the Bear, of the Eagle, etc.) are randomly generated; therefore we are unable to guarantee that you will receive the same modifier you had on your original item. We are also unable to guarantee the restoration of enchantments or add-ons (such as gems, scopes, etc.) the items may have possessed. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have been caused.

For further information please check our Restoration Policy located at (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/20457)

Thank you again for contacting us. We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft!

It's much easier to make off with a compromised account when the pesky owner isn't logging in, changing passwords and scanning machines.

Happened like that to me too. Nothing ever until after I canceled my sub.

And then forget your authenticator when you come to my house.
