"Ok we aren't such things and birds are pretty advanced. They fly and shit from anywhere they want. While we sit on our automatic toilets, they're shitting on people and my car while a cool breeze tickles their anus. That's the life."

sigh, to clarify, hindenburg killed off transport to the empire state building, as after then, the idea of flaming death raining down on midtown manhattan outweighed "HEY I PARKED AT THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING WITH MY HUGE MANATEE"

blimps are target practice anyway. see: duke3d last level easter egg.

I honestly think that with good marketing, blimps/zeppys could make a highly profitable comeback.

Fill them with helium and cover them with solar panels. Power them with solar propellers. Outfit them with wireless/satelite internet and make most of the craft out of aluminum and plastic.

Have the stewards wear novelty Nazi-style outfits with ridiculous epaulets, Sam Browne belts, double-breasted jackets with huge bezel buttons, huge belt buckles and some sort of suitably silly hat.

All that and cheaper than oil-powered plane tickets. And more leg room.

in the meantime, fill it with hydrogen, market it to hipsters, and then flip a switch that pulls the panels out until they become fresnel lenses.

More like market it to:
1. Young and/or poor people who don't want to pay for plane tickets
2. Upper-middle class suburban Christian Fashionists
3. Middle-managers who can't afford a private plane but wish they could

Another idea might be to make a bunch of "exclusive offers" - host franchises, gambling and novelty restaurants and other experiences exclusive to the in-flight experience.

-Restaurants serving Jewish or soul food
-Exclusive items for various online video games
-Meeting one celebrity guest per flight
-White elephant giveaways, or being given goodie bag full of corporate freebies

actually aestu your idea was good in the first post, and got worse in the second.

I was almost tempted to order a ticket

Yes the japan reactors were built to withstand earthquakes, and tsunamis. But not AT THE SAME TIME. Also one of the reactors was something like 2 weeks around it's 40 year expiration, meaning it was literally about to be revamped, evaluated and updated.

I have family that works at the place formerly known as "The Manhattan Project", so I don't like the thought of earthquakes and nuclear facilities.. but with the proper top of the line precautions there's really not much more efficient for energy.
