There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

To put it simply, yes. Each PC has a unique IP address both on your LAN and WAN. Where as your router may be using a gateway of 192.168.1.1, each subsequent PC will grab the next IP via DHCP in the pool. Some routers start at 100 so your gateway = 192.168.1.1 and your first PC would be 192.168.1.100. These are LAN Ip addresses and aren't the actual WAN IP address. Generally your WAN IP address is whichever you are currently assigned by your ISP. Depending on how far down the line Blizzard is locking down the IP's to it would be extremely hard for a hacker to steal your IP address. I would be more worried about the authenticator code.

It works like this:

Bane logs in and his IP assigned to him via his ISP is 63.128.42.101 (this day at least) most ISP's do not use static IP addresses that way they don't have to manage them all the time and re-enter old ones that have been given up back into the pool. So you may have the same address for weeks and then your power goes out releases that address and when it comes back on you may be 63.128.42.107 or something.

So Blizzard/Battle.net says if Bane is coming from any address in the pool of 63.128.42.X he can log in with no authenticator. So let's say his system gets compromised, that person would need to keep the PC in the general vicinity of his house or have a mapping of how the ISP assigns IP's in his 'zone'. Otherwise I would say he is pretty safe.

Personally, I only bought the authenticator for the pet. I used it for a while...then one time I tried to log on in a different state and i forgot my authenticator. So I called Blizz and had them turn it off so I could log in. I haven't set it back up yet. If I get hacked, then meh.

And when you removed the authenticator the pet disappears from your bar. What a neat feature.

Are you sure? Blizzard said that if the authenticator was removed so would be the CHP. Might want to check...because heaven knows everything is always working as intended...

On a related note, they recently made the Vanilla Collectors Edition pets consumable. I'd moved them to Aestu by Bnet merging an account I got literally off eBay and trained them to her and all my alts. But when I recently tried training them to a new char - my 10th char, a druid, the only class I did not have on BH - they disappeared. Since according to a blue post, Bnet pets now disappear on char acct xfer, "the door has closed behiind me".

Because, you know, it totally matters at this point.

Aestu of Bleeding Hollow...

Nihilism is a copout.

I'll check when I get home. I'm pretty sure I still have it on Azelma.

Thinking about it though, when I made a new character I didn't get the corehound in the mail. So I bet it stays on the character once you learn it.

I disabled and re-enabled the authenticator multiple times and each time I put it back on I got the pet in the mail and could relearn it.
