Or am I the only person who plays games to have fun?
I see your point..however, think of it this way. If you read an excellent novel, you will have fun, but you also be reading, learning something, improving your vocabulary and so on.
If you go to an amusement park, you'll be having fun, but you'll also be exercising, getting some good sun, making lasting memories, taking pictures, and hanging out with people IRL who you are hopefully close to in some way.
If you go to a GOOD movie, you'll maybe learn something new, think about life in a different way, think about your relationships or society as a whole in a different way...
etc. etc.
Factor in the fact that MMOs are designed to be time sinks (make no mistake, Blizz wants you online, addicted, and subscribing) I guess I feel like in the grand scheme of life, video games themselves are mind-numbing and therefore a waste of time.
I guess this is more focused on someone who would wait hours for a rare mob to spawn, just to kill it and get a silly 10 point achievement or something. Someone who logs on just to raid with guild friends...I definitely see how that's just fun and not a grandiose waste of time.
Once again, I still will play WoW...I just recognize that often it's nothing but a grind/rat race (especially when it comes to gear and getting an e-peen).
