Kaldorei gets wet over Ben Stein voices, LOL.

The leak in the gulf is our own fault. If we had drilled closer to shore in shallower water, the damn thing would have been plugged by now.

So why didn't we? The usual environmental nonsense (and see how great that worked out for the environment this time?), which is well-intentioned and to be expected, and I don't really blame so much this time. The true problem is rich assholes with condos on gulf beaches who didn't want to see oil derricks on the horizon from their patios. Hope you rich bastards are enjoying your pristine view on your oil-soaked beaches, you fucks.

Jubber

He was serious about the controlled nuke detonation because, and get this....that's how the Russians cap these when they have them. No joke. My roommate was telling me about it yesterday.

Nukes are awesome.

The only way to fix the leak is to drill new wells to relieve the pressure.

The problem there is that will take months to do.

Question, if we don't, how long will it take the well to fully discharge, and how much discharge would there be total?

That's a good question, but it's one I think the people in charge of covering this in the media and the relevant corporations and government types don't want to think about.

I think, and I may wrong, that part of the permitting process involves having some geological estimate regarding the expected yield of a well. Even if it's not part of the permitting process, I can't imagine BP doesn't have that information on-hand, because it'd be dumb to drill and try to work a well at a couple thousand feet without being able to do some sort of cost/benefit analysis based to see if it'd be worth the effort.

So send that question off to some news agency. I'll bet there's a reporter waiting to say, "DURP! Why didn't I think of that?!?!?"
