I downed 2 bosses in Naxx because we're bad, had mid-level officer ranks on my characters I had at 60, and was generally highly-regarded mostly because I was obnoxious on the forums and had the gear to two-shot anyone I wanted back when rogues worked that way.

These (mediocre) achievements got me placed on BH's best 5v5 for the entirety of TBC, so I'd say it worked out.

EDIT: after reading, i kinda sorta agree with him. I mean i know people who played back then who were bad, and i know people who started later and were great.

But I think it was more the social issue. There were no LFD's, nothing cross server, etc. If you were good or bad or whatever, people KNEW you.

I mean I was an officer in the most feared/hated pvp guild(back when pvp guilds meant something) on one of the most populated (first rp/pvp server unofficial!) servers in the game during vanilla. Thats why people say "the good ol' days." Because back then, we were celebrities.

No he doesn't, the only ingredient that's missing is time for nostalgia to breed.

I still believe my personal claim to fame in Vanilla was beating Tehbeast in back-to-back attacks, one with each legendary, while I was farming something or other outside Nethergarde Keep on my priest.

There was some question on the first page of the MMO champion thread (What is a lava run/related follow up questions) that I didn't know the answer to. I don't even remember how to get attuned for MC other than Jailbreak. I have a very good memory but who the hell remembers all of these minute details from 5 years ago? Must not have much going on in life.

never heard of a lava run before, was it a horde thing?

Jailbreak was part of the Onyxia quest line IIRC. MC attunement was only to go to the Riftkeeper and go get the piece of the rock from near the portal.

The Onyxia quest line was ridiculously long and ended (for Alliance) in that blue dragon cave in Winterspring. That was always fun.

I don't know, maybe it's just some terminology that was never used on our server. Now that I think about it a bit more, the attunement for MC was just to get that rock thing outside of the MC instance portal that is in BRD, right? There was a shortcut where you could just down to incindius, jump down again to lava, get on some safe ground, run along that, swim to another place, then almost be there.

oh that makes sense.

That's just going to the where Incendius is in BRD, jumping off his platform into the lava and hopping to the MC portal. Back in the day there was a specific path you had to follow to survive that involved exposed ledges and hopping to the island in the lava with the firelord guys on it.

It was basically the shortcut to the MC attunement without having to actually clear BRD.
