So, if you haven't heard, the TSA (transportation safety authority) has instituted a bunch of new policies here in America to help "protect" us citizens from terrorism.

Here's the problem, these new policies are pretty messed up.

First, at random, you can now be subject to full-body scans. Basically, it's a really powerful xray that can see right through your clothes, giving whatever security moron is working there a nice look at your naked ass:

Well, I dunno about you, but I'm not comfortable going through such things, nor would I be comfortable if my girlfriend/wife/son/daughter had to be sent through it (side note, there are also health concerns because of the radiation that they hit you with: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/80bea ... ray-scans/ ).

Yes, they literally touch your junk. They argue it's not bad because it's always same sex. Oh I'm sorry...so if a 40 year old man touches a 12 year old boy's junk...that's not fucked up?

Basically, if anyone else touched you that way, it would be sexual assault. But because it's the government...it's okay?

TLDR:
1. New security procedures are ridiculous, almost big brother 1984-ish
2. This is supposed to protect me from terrorism? I don't see where protection comes at the cost of individual civil liberties.

It's funny too, in countries where terrorist attacks are significantly more of a threat then they are here (Israel) they don't have all this scanning/security check-point bullshit. You know what they have?

Two Israeli soldiers with AK-47s on EVERY flight. Paying them is significantly cheaper than all this hi-tech equipment, and probably more effective too.

Israel's actually not a good example of moderation. Their security checks are ridiculously invasive.

Also, they'll put 3 bullets in your laptop if they don't like your face.

On one hand searching everybody extensively is retarded.

On the other hand, I was listening to a story about a Canadian rapper the other day who is of Iraqi descent who can't get through the border half the time, and every time he tries to, he's held for 3-5 hours, even with all of his paperwork stating he's Canadian and has been Canadian for almost all of his life.

People throw the race card, so even reasonable profiling is railed against, and cases of full blown "the only real reason we have him here is because he's sandy skin colored" are why the race card is thrown at all.

It's simply stupid that we don't use any intelligence and intuition on these things. The underwear bomber was on the No Fly List, and still managed to get on the plane.

There was another case where they pulled someone aside in Canada, on his way to Washington state, solely because "he was sweating in December", which is something common in bombers before they blow themselves away - sweaty, glazed eyes, and seemingly distracted.

This is all on the Reddit front page all day every day so I am annoyed of this topic. The community is usually reasonably intelligent/rational/logical about lots of things, but they are worse than the tea party about this shit. I haven't flown in like 15 years and I don't live in the USA. I have a feeling lots of people outraged are in a similar situation (except maybe the not living in USA part)

Some guy said he was going to take a Viagra before his flight and update on Sunday though.

20 days after 9/11 I flew from Chattanooga to Minnisota. We had one of our guys get put agains the wall and an M16 pointed at him while they patted him down because the metal buttons on his cargo shorts set off the metal detector and another guy got the full pat down and wand when he presented his card that showed he had hip replacement surgery. His joking that he wanted the number of the chick that shoved the wand down his pants did not go over too well. The flight back it was like there was no security, we walked in and out of the checkpoint several times to hit the bar because our flight got delayed. Consistency is a hard thing. BTW, I would take the jail time and knock a mother fucker out if they insisted on the grope procedure on my daughters. It would be worth the headlines.

I don't take the plane often (like twice a year) but it doesn't mean I should think this is fine.

Discretion probably means they're never going to grope-check someone who's a white dad with children, though.

I agree that this bites, but what is the alternative?

I think about the TSA workers? What a shitty job. Have you ever looked around at the average crowd at an airport? There might be 10% that you would consider it less than repulsive to fondle/search, and I'll wager that after a couple of 8 hour shifts doing this, and listening to all the shit, and guys with viagra boners blaming you for government regulations, you'd probably really hate your job.

Also, setting aside my unease with the safety (especially repeated) of exposure in the scanners, the people reading the scanners never actually see the passengers (except on the scan), or vice versa. Wouldn't you think this would be another ho-hum job after a couple of hours? Regardless of your sexual preference, half of the people you are looking at would be the wrong sex, and a huge portion of the ones who are the right sex would be... undesirable? In any case, I imagine this job being like a heterosexual, male OB-GYN: after looking at vag day after day after day, the new is going to wear off and, it's just a job.

That's fine, but there is so much sensationalism it makes the people against it just look like retards. Just look at the title, genital fondling? I've also seen molestation, the scanning machines referred to as porn machines, cancer machines, etc... Lots of the stories people get outraged about are exaggerated or just flat out lies from people looking for attention.
