Believe me, no one in the republican party (so far as I can tell) is doing cartwheels over the choices we have for presidential candidate. Santorum is...well, Santorum. Romney is just not acceptable to a lot of republicans because of the mess surrounding "Obamneycare," his flip-flops, and being 'too moderate.' Ron Paul has being ruined by three or four runs of his own party throwing him under the boss and slapping the crazy label on him. The fact that these guys are so bad that Newt Gingrich doesn't get laughed/booed off the stage when he's up there with him should tell you how depressing the situation is.

This is what happens, though. We've turned our elections into Jr. High popularity contests, with a least common-denominator mentality that requires our media to give everyone a rectal exam, and no one is happy if there's not dirt. People like Newt Gingrich and Bill Clinton are exactly the kind of person you get running for office under those conditions...take away the politics and those two could have been separated at birth. You either get Romney-style goody-two-shoes candidates with no personality, or guys like Gingrich who don't care that their skeletons are out of the closet and have no shame about giving you shit for pointing it out.

I didn't vote in the last presidential election, and I haven't cast a vote for anything since that election. The race between The Blank Slate and The Manchurian Candidate did me in. Things aren't going to get any better, they're just going to continue to go south until we collapse under the weight of our own stupidity, another case of history repeating.

Jubber

Yeah this is even worse of a "lesser of two stupids" than the mccain obama election was, and we don't even have a republican nominee yet.

Jubber's mostly right, except it wasn't the media who called attention to Gingrich's marital history. It was his own wife and fellow GOP members (Romney by name). The quote about the media was actually a non sequitor since the encounter was a primary debate and not an interview with the media.

Romney's big failing, besides ignorance, is that he is judged well as being "out of touch", he refuses to disclose his tax returns, but tells us enough to let us know there's some serious shit there, as if Cain's example isn't enough to teach a GOP primary candidate that the cover-up is usually worse and everything inevitably comes out anyway.

Back to Gingrich...apparently the irony, the point of my post, in Newt's blaming "the media", is completely lost on Jubber.

There are things I like about each Republican but none of them are my perfect candidate... but I feel like any of them would be better than the assclown we have in office now. One key factor in this election (unlike Obama v McCain) is Obama now has to convince the American people to give him a second term... and I'm not sure that's going to be that easy considering his first term has been pretty low on achievements worth a second term. Can anyone here say, with a straight face, that he's been a success worth another four years?

Romney to release tax returns Tuesday

Also, if Romney is 'Out of Touch' then I think that's par for the course, considering the President isn't doing much better in that regard.

Edit: For Gingrich laughs...

I'm with you Eturnal. Obama hasn't done anything that really shows "oh, he's clearly done a great job and deserves a 2nd term"

Here's the problem. All of these republican candidates are so weak that Obama will most likely win by default. These challengers are either "not conservative enough" or too much of a flip-flopper for their own base (Romney), or have way too much dirt on them (Newt), or are undermined by their own party and the media (Ron Paul) , or are simply a euphemism for post-buggery anal leakage (Santorum).

Obama will win because the fractured Republican party, and joke of a presidential field, will not nominate someone who could get the support of both the conservative base and any moderates. I mean....look at this tightly contested primary. All these candidates are doing is tearing each other down. It's just a mud slinging shit throwing contest. They're doing Obama's campaign strategists' work for them.

Finally...this is why the Republican Party is so fucking retarded:

Everything Ron Paul is saying there is true. Our interventionist policies have made us ripe to be hated/targeted by these other countries. It's not that they "hate our freedoms" or "our way of life" or whatever Fox News, the Bush Administration, and Santorum would have you believe. It just shocks me that these inbred hicks can't understand that simple point...instead focusing on "oh Ron Paul wants us to blame ourselves for 9/11 herrr derr it was the dayum MUSLIMS we gotta KILL EM USA USA USA USA HERRR HERR"

It makes me sick. I'm glad the Republican party is in the shit can, because this shows how out of touch with reality they are.

What would you have Obama have done?

You obviously haven't read Ron Paul's views on race. That is, the views he authored before he decided to reinvent himself as a cult figure.

His economic policies are a facet of those views. When he says "self-help" he really means no help. What he really wants is what most libertarians want, which is that government shouldn't help people he doesn't like.

Ron Paul is the most out-of-touch candidate of all. He actually thinks it's the year 1850 and we're a nation of small farmers on mostly virgin land.

Do you deny he's libertarian? No? Then I don't need to cite a source.

The libertarian philosophy is predicated on the conditions that, putatively, made it successful in the past.

Either one believes those conditions necessary for its success exist, or one accepts the philosophy is obsolete and invalid.

So because Libertarian philosophies cannot be reasonably applied to all government situations in present day, their exists no wisdom in ANY Libertarian viewpoint?

Most of the Republican candidates' views on social issues would be what kept me from voting for them, honestly.

I think the only people that think Mr. Paul was ever a racist are people that really really want to believe it.

How Newt won SC is beyond me. I mean, he can speak well, but he's the kind of person that would use a grenade to kill a woodchuck in open field, then after throwing the grenade, decide he really doesn't care about the woodchuck, he wants to grenade the giraffe and he wants to shoot the grenade out of a homemade launcher shaped like Nancy Reagan's ass.

The fuck happened USD? The fuck? Many derps, HANDLE IT!

It is (or should be when laws are actually followed) mostly a moot point when talking about a president.

I'm far more worried about the GOP establishment's readiness to use a sword instead of a pen.
