It favors big money and frustrates small artists. Either you make something that appeals to the lowest common denominator and give up all rights, or you have to give your stuff away. This is why there are no modern-day Mozarts and the general level of artistic freedom has gone down.
The answer, I think, is to reform IP and tax laws to discourage freeloading and copyright hoarding.
Pretty much all of this. Intellectual property deserves protection. It does not deserve life-of-artist plus 70 years.
The only reason there is any deviation from patent norms (20 years after granting of patent) in the world of copyright is because of Disney and other companies like Disney.
