Don't think that you can tackle a problem involving more advanced concepts than you're comfortable with. If you don't understand a concept, identify the constituents of the theorem or whatever and work your way up to the concept you have troubles with (build it, you'll remember it forever)

Focus on grokking any and all concepts remotely related to what you want to do and not on memorization.

As for the estimation of your math skills, nobody is born able to do math, you have to practice forever. You know that feeling of confusion when faced with a new more basic concept that you don't understand yet? You'll have the same feeling everytime something new comes up. Everyone does.
