No answer? Go figure.

Just like that. When you point out that libertarians just don't have any basis for their beliefs, other than Fox News...you provide them the open-ended opportunity to volunteer where they get their ideas, how they can justify them in practice...they got nothing...the entire libertarian argument vacillates.

Yet these people are so totally brainwashed by propaganda and so blinded by greed, no matter how meticulously you point this out the fallacies of their beliefs, they will go on clinging to their delusions, determined to go on with their rainbow-chasing.

Weena will go on insisting that there's a free lunch waiting for him out there, somewhere. A lunch he doesn't have to pay taxes on, nor does its preparation require taxing anyone else. A lunch that no one more powerful than him will try to take from him any way they can. A lunch that is equally available to everyone, by means fair or foul, but will find its way only into the hands of the scrupulous and worthy. His hands.

And should anyone tell him that the free lunch is a myth designed to benefit those who have a monopoly on lunches - the carrot on a stick, held just out of reach by some creature wiser and more powerful than the pack animal - he will make specious arguments, be debunked, and sulk away like the child being told he can't have a cookie. Just as he always does when so cornered.

And that mentality, utterly incorrigible ignorance and greed, is why our country is doomed.

Anyway, I was selling some stuff on eBay and came across a petition for a Supreme Court case: Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons. The case is interesting in that it is a real-life study in why libertarianism and the so-called "free market" just doesn't work.

It is clear that only I have the brains to rule the Terran system.

If you disagree, I have provided you with the means to prove me wrong.

Maybe he has an answer, and just isn't available for comment, or maybe, like more sensible people in the past, he's invoked the "no sense wrestling with a pig" philosophy and is just going to let you blather on and on about how people who disagree with you have never read any books, or haven't read the right ones if they have, or they're just wrong because you said so. Seriously, 90% of conversations with you end with this mutated appeal-to-(your own)authority "I'm right because I said I am, and you're wrong for the same reason" silliness. You're as predictable as the tides.

He doesn't have any answers and neither do you.

Like you he's a brainwashed Fox zombie, just like those fools in any other country inundated with propaganda that so many really stupid people buy into, whether it's the Communists or Islamic militants running the show.

Just because the facts don't agree with your ideology, and just because your ideology is based on nothing more than total ignorance, does not mean that facts and knowledge are my personal opinion merely because I happen to know things that you do not.

Pointing out that an opinion is an opinion, as if it's a strike against it, is the last resort of the frustrated debater.

You failed to specify any jury instructions. Now I'm gonna have to make them up, and as a judge, I really don't like doing work.

Hurp durp.

Sorry I'm not basement dwelling as hard as you bro.

I mean do you? Where do you get your knowledge, your ideas, about economics, politics, government, society, how the present came to be and different ideas have worked out in the past?

I read and listen to radio programs.

But it doesn't matter, whatever my answer is will be dismissed. You've already dismissed people who are either as well read or more so.

I don't even watch/read Fox. Nor MSNBC for similar reasons.

But that doesn't matter to you either.

Place sells books for exorbitant prices, competitor emerges and undercuts them.

Doesn't work at all though, not in the slightest. The only wrench in this equation would be a successful court case, but that has nil to do with the market.

Though it would have a great impact on it.

I just realized something from this thread.

PS. Redistribution is the greed that will, and currently is, taking this country down.

PPS. I've no more responses for you.

That is not what the case is about, and understanding what the case IS about would enlighten you as to why it has everything to do with the market and why it just doesn't work.

I'm just going to point out here, this is the difference between an educated person and an ignorant person. Six hours ago, neither of us had any idea this court case existed. When I heard about it, I of course Googled, but I didn't stop there, I carefully read everything, got multiple accounts from different sources, and compared the accounts against my own knowledge and experience. You on the other hand just go for the ten-word summary and stop there. Multiply that process a thousand times and you have educated vs ignorant.

Actually the appropriate word here would be "pig-headed". One who cannot defend their position rationally so they resort to mere posturing so they may go on with their silliness. That would be the definition of the idiom.

It's not that you are too proud to answer, it's that you are too arrogant to admit you cannot.

Like I said, you're predictable. Everyone already knows it doesn't matter what Weena has read. You're only asking so that you can type a multi-paragraph diatribe about why it doesn't matter what he's read and why everything you've read is infinitely superior, probably with footnotes from the BBC.

Pig-headed or not, it's funny that Mr. "I'm right because I said I am, and you're wrong for the same reason" is calling anyone else arrogant.

Just because it is predictable that I point out the ignorance underscoring the libertarian ideology doesn't make it any less of a hard counter.

Honestly, no one cares that you have a problem with libertarian philosophy, what's annoying is your whole "I'm right because I said so" and "obviously ur dum--don't read--what you read don't matter" shtick, which you pull regardless of what's being discussed.

The entire point of reading is that without doing so, one's argument becomes "right because I say so".
That is your (and Weena's) argument. Not mine. This is a case of psychological projection.

Let me throw it at you a different way. Fine, you don't like college. Then why not go read some books on the topics you want to have opinions on? Why not just acquire the means to beat book-readers at their own game?

Games have rules. The one you seem to think you're playing apparently comes with an I-Win Button. That's not how civil discourse works. You prove your point, you don't tell the other guy "you're wrong," and you sure as hell don't tell him the reason he's wrong is because "I said so." If he's demonstrably, factually wrong, that's easy to do. If, as is the case with this conversation, there is no way to prove one way or the other that he's wrong or you're right, you make your point as well you can and refute his and provide a counter-point. If you can't do that, you shut the fuck up.

What you do is a game with rules in the same way that playing checkers with someone who knocks the board and pieces on the floor when they're losing (or bored) is.

Jubber
