I have an older transformer as well as a Nexus7. The Transformer died on me after a few months of average use. It now can only be used while plugged in and attached to the dock which makes it fairly pointless. The Nexus7 works fine right now and I use it for exactly what you are looking for, reading PDFs, watching movies light internet browsing/e-mail checking.

Thanks for the first hand opinions cally. And mazel, I was looking into the nexus 7 and the only thing that bothered me was the lack of storage space. It only has a few gigs and depends on cloud storage, no? Am I supposed to swap movies and shows in and out of it worth something like iTunes? I also wish it was in stores to mess around with lol. I tried the 7" Samsung tab 2 but it felt slow and clunky though that might have been because it was a floor model and not because it was a 7" tablet.

Hmm now I'm seriously considering the nexus 7 again lol

I've nbever really had storage space issues. It is enough for multiple movies or shows as well as a complete collection of books. I have probably 30-40 books on mine right now as well as a whole anime series. Transferring files is as easy as plugging in a usb cable and then drag and dropping into the folder you want. I'm sure there are also file management programs but I've always just dragged and dropped. You will want to get a file manager program on the actual device, I use astromanager it's free. And then I use EZPDF to read the files. MXplayer to play movies and shows.

I got it for free from my boss, while I bought the transformer for myself previously, Note that my transformer was an older version I think the TF101? So they may have fixed the charging issue I had. I actually like the Nexus 7 more because it is a bit more portable and the size is just right. I can read one page of a book with a decent sized font relatively easily. One thing with the smaller screen is I'm not sure how good it is with diagrams/pictures which I assume you have a lot of with medical textbooks. I read mostly business/finance items so aside from charts I don't have to worry much about graphics.

Okay cool, I've pretty much settled on the nexus 7 then. The price means I can probably upgrade my phone before I go too.


But now... Should I get 16 or 32 gb? ffffffffffffffffffffff

Where are you ordering it from? Be aware that some shipping could be delayed due to the New Year etc.
I'd just get 2-3 day shipping and order it today and you should get it by thursday/friday.

Yeah I actually need it by Friday. It's only $7.00 more for next day if I order form NewEgg. Will is be new from there? Should I get it from there or from Google itself? Google only has a two-day option, plus processing time (up to two business days)...

Things from newegg should be new, unless it says refurbished but I'm not sure if they even sell refurbished items.
