College is able to scam the fuck out of peoples wallets because the public school system is such a joke.

I agree, but at the same time it really feels like a lot of idiots are getting out of high school with a diploma.

Yeah, there is, and we're not even talking about affirmative action. I hope to Alfather they're not pumping out even less qualified people because their a minority. That would be wrong on so many levels.

I graduated by the skin of my teeth, and had to go to summer school before I got my diploma (4th year of summer school in a row). You know what I did in summer school? About 30 pages of retard english and math in packets, where I should have been able to do 3-4 times that much.

So yeah, lot of idiots. The kinds that incapable of learning the right stuff, and then the idiots like me who just had to stand against the grain.

Rank 121 out of 124, with an IQ of 123... no, my school wasn't full of geniuses either.

TL:DR
All you need to do to pass highschool (atleast where I went) is to almost try.

My university offers full ride scholarships to Toledo Public School (read:black, in toledo at least) students that graduate high school with a 2.8 GPA.

The 2.8 in that public school district is probably equivalent to graduating with a D average in any decent high school system. Those people are getting in to college, then the college shows that they're "supporting the local students" by getting them through to a college diploma. Half of them don't know how to read or write and end up with degrees in communication or business.

Graduating high school is easy. Getting anywhere after that is the part that matters.

Also, I have a History and a French degree. I recognize that these are functionally useless on their own, which is why I'm going to Law school.

That was the most subtle bit of sarcasm I have ever seen. I am deeply impressed.

People coming to conclusions different than my own (otherwise known as "being wrong" nyuck, nyuck) do not really bother me. What does bother me is stuff like "women's studies" that basically just tries to put an intellectual facade on complete bullshit...and I know bullshit, because I don't have my piece of paper (yet), and it's what gets me by a lot of the time.

Then some "woe is me" article about how hard poor college students have it hits, and it's not "I spent 3 billion dollars at MIT for an engineering degree and can't pay it back even with this awesome engineering job," it's "I'm a dumb ass, pity me." It's hard for me to have sympathy for people who study bullshit, then don't know how to make bullshit work for them when I've been doing it for years without a degree in bullshit.

Jubber

I'm pretty sure you can work for public interest with a women's studies degree, it's not terribly glamorous but it beats being unemployed and in debt.

Had to modify that to make it more accurate.

What I learned in Women's Studies:

They have boobs.
They have vaginas.
They don't like it when all you know about them is they have boobs and vaginas.
So I studied harder, and found out they also have butts.

My parents always tell me "Ethan, you need that piece of paper, but we know, you're never going to do anything with your degree. You will make your way in life doing something unorthodox. Of all the men in our family, you are the most likely to be a billionaire."

Ever see the Wizard of Oz?

Wizard of Oz: "And what can I do for you, my friend?"
Scarecrow: "I, I want a brain!"
Wizard of Oz: "Oh, well, I can't give you that. But I can give you a diploma!"

Only a fool gets a degree in a field he's good at. If you're good at the field, your skill will speak for itself. For everything else, get a qualification, so you can pretend to be good, and that way, you cover the maximum number of bases.

I attend college not majoring in something I could blow away, like history or English, because I am already good at those things. I choose Classics not because I intend to learn the field or pursue it, but because I believed it would reflect better on me than dime-a-dozen liberal arts majors, and I don't have the discipline to study science or math.

Maybe I'll eventually get an MBA or some sort of stupid computer certification. I believe being versatile is most likely to lead me to something big.

In real life as in-game, I am intensely focused and willful when something arouses my interest, but I have great difficulty doing things I am not passionate about.

This isn't true for professional degrees such as engineering and architecture. Fields that require specialist knowledge but don't involve formal post-graduate education usually make a degree in that field a requirement for entry in the relevant professional association. Similarly, for graduate schools your undergraduate degree usually needs to be somewhat related to the field you are entering (at least in the sciences). Most people who succeed in these fields are good at what they studied.

Well, yeah, I agree, but that shit's real.

Most liberal arts are as they do.
