this question is actually worded in a very-vague way, in my opinion

from the way you have put it, are we keeping you from a 'heaven' or a purgatory?
you mention that we are the barrier between death and the afterlife which means that we are a wall with only one door, not two
regardless of our decision, though, you would still be dead so that part of it all is irrelevant
however, to be able to keep you from the afterlife would make it seem as if you are kept in purgatory/limbo. with this as the (false) dichotomy, it would seem as if my role in this farce is to decide whether i get to let your soul 'rest'
with that as the motivation for me to complete my 'job,' i would have to know, truly, what will you experience based upon my decision. will you suffer within the realm of nothingness as you experience neither pain nor joy? will you simply become a squatter at the gates only to be harassed by the death-police for not having a place to go? are you in a position to actually physically remove me from my soapbox?
details...details...

the moment that "it's always sunny..." makes a movie will also be the moment their show will have died, imo

Mojo Jojo?

Death (nothingness) on one side vs. Afterlife (something) on the other. Clearly, the existence of the gate and a keeper implies that everyone does not get through. Your imaginary gatekeeping abilities could be fail, sir.

This implies some greater good. What if I did something that no one else would?

And, how many is "your people"? Millions? Thousands? Hundreds? What about a selfless act that helped one person in need?

but doesn't the afterlife imply death? you don't go to an afterlife when you're still alive.

Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not soe,
For, those, whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill mee.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

Self-identity is what gives life meaning. This is also why I love cats and hate dogs.

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.

In the old days, they'd weigh your heart against a feather to see if you were worthy to pass on to the afterlife.

I was a lot less concerned about this after Anubis drunkenly told me one evening, "Man, you have no idea hard hard it was to find a feather that fucking heavy."

Physical death, yes. You, as gatekeeper, get to decide who of those queued before you have earned passage, and are worthy, of a level up. ;) The ones you deny would simply blink out, OR, go back to try again if you prefer the Hindu version. The question is: What would make them worthy, in your eyes?

Good show, Dotz! T. S. Eliot answers you all!

Haha! He was only trying to impress you. He lost his gig to Osiris. Small wonder he's a drunken dog!

Death speaks in small caps and is generally a pleasant guy.
