Parliament is filled with Mubarak loyalists, as is the caretaker cabinet. The military will control shit until the elections, and it's a lot easier to deal with a relatively small cabinet than it is to have to supervise a much larger branch of the government.

OK, I was good with this until Dagery understood and agreed with the reasoning, now I'm mildly concerned, and may need to have myself checked in somewhere.

No offense, Dag, you're swell and all, but...well, you know.

the military is heavily influenced by the US, so as things go, it looks like this is the best it could have gone for the US, but i am still worried.

especially because facebook and twitter toppled a nation.

To me, this is actually the silver lining. The internet has shown that its power - the mass sharing of ideas and connecting of people, translates to real life action. If there were ever a situation where we were being oppressed, knowing that facebook and twitter could unite us and cause a revolution...that's pretty special.

There is a reason why China and Iran censor their internet heavily. No one wants to be oppressed. This could turn out very badly in Egypt. We'll have to wait and see if a moderate political party emerges from the chaos. However, typically this environment is ripe for political extremism.
