pretty sure the only excuse to ever play an FPS on consoles was goldeneye/PD and timesplitters.

I could understand if you said Halo was about the co-op, which counts as multiplayer. If we're talking 8v8 Blood Gulch I could just as easily be playing 32v32 Tribes or even some TFC, both of which are vastly superior and involve USING A FUCKING MOUSE TO AIM.

Not sure why Meowth seems confused, since he's a TF2 kind of bro.

Having played FPS games on both PCs and consoles...I fail to see how using a mouse to aim is so much more "leet" than looking around and aiming with joysticks.

I just never understood the "THIS WAY IS BETTER" mentality. They are different styles of playing the same type of game. Sounds to me like you're just mad because you can't pwn people easily on console shooters, so you have decided they suck.

I'm actually pretty good at Halo (and was pretty good at Goldeneye fifteen years ago) despite the inferior control scheme. It is, however, an empirical fact that a mouse is a superior input device when it comes to aiming. It's not a question of preferred styles, that's just the way it is.

Just because your observations have lead you to believe this is truth does not mean it is a universal truth. It merely means it is your truth. There are those who have played both and would disagree with you.

....unless you can provide me with some scientific study that compares the two and determines that PC aiming with a mouse is superior.

PA had a nice discussion of the differences from a game designer a little while ago.

Quote:
It all comes down to how each input mechanism affects your ability to turn. On a console, the angle in which a player can turn is a function of both time and displacement of the thumb stick. No matter how far players want to turn, they have to pay a time cost. Even at the highest controller sensitivity, there is a time cost to be paid. On a PC the angle of turn is a direct mapping of how far you move the mouse. The time cost is variable and the better players get that time cost to approach zero.

There's a reason console games often have aim assist, generous hitboxes, or huge ammo clips.

Well there you go - makes sense. Aiming on PCs is better.

However, this does not in any way support a theory that FPS games on PCs are superior across the board, or that multiplayer on a computer is always better and consoles cannot develop FPS games with multiplayer in mind.

This is because it comes down to a quotient of "fun" I define a game or experience that is better as what is more "fun" for me personally. This subjective fun quotient is a product of an extremely large number of variables. To name a few:

1. Do my friends play?
2. Am I good at it?
3. Can I see reasonable improvement in my skill level after many hours of play?
4. Are the maps interesting?
5. Is there a large and active multiplayer community?
6. Are there cool guns?
7. Are there unique game modes/mechanics?
8. Are the graphics cool?
10. Does Aestu play?

Having different mechanics where one way of aiming is more accurate and allows a lag time coefficient to reach 0 for skilled players does not mean that multiplayer on that platform will always be better, nor does it mean that games on that platform will always be better.

At the end of the day, your argument ("FPS games on PCs are better!!") is a subjective one, and one that cannot be proven.

So PC master race vs peasant consoles somehow nullifies the multiplayer? Around where I live every LAN party the staple game was the most recent release of Halo. Every FPS game is about the multiplayer no matter what platform it comes on.

Still Yuratuhl?

You truly do nerdrage when it comes to this topic

edit And halo was for its multiplayer, it wasn't an FPS on the PC, starcrap or WoW arenas that started MLG. It was halo for the xbox bros.

I have no problem saying console shooters can be (and are) fun. They'll just never come close to the superior platform.

Too bad the only thing PCs have going for them is a mouse since every game ever gets fucked by console ports since the tech is so old.
