If not Amtrak then there's Greyhound.

So, one of the times I went to Johnstown I couldn't catch a train back to Harrisburg. No problem, I'd just take Greyhound.

One of the worst ideas I ever had. It's about 3-4 hours between Johnstown-Harrisburg, but the most direct route took about 6 and ended up taking 7 that day. The seats were tiny, I spent the whole time with my knees painfully cramped into the seat ahead of me. The bus was half-full, but they were old order and they were getting pretty ripe after about an hour.

That was my first and last time I took a Greyhound bus.

Anyway, Greyhound is shit if you like having any space, and for some reason I can't read on buses even though I can without difficulty on trains. Those nicer double-decker commuter trains are decent, but the commuter lines that run from NJ to NY tend to run those only at peaks, and even then only about half the time. The shitty old trains that are the fallback are neither spacious nor rapid. A drive that takes 50 minutes with smooth traffic is better in my book than an hour and a half train ride from the local station to Penn Station.

Plus it's 15 fucking dollars for a train ticket, one way. Please subsidize this harder, you pieces of shit.

Still working out my work transportation details until I get a car on the road, so I'm still working out NoVA FuBu in my head, and won't be available for travel for a month or so.

Apparently you have to be 25 to drive a rental vehicle. I was under the assumption I could drive myself to NYC.

So unless there's pretty cheapo public transportation, it'd have to be closer.
