Managing Holy Power and watching procs/debuffs/buffs with base UI is impossible to do well because all these elements are on the far edges of the screen, away from each other and away from player field of view.

It's not a function of skill. It's an inherent physical limitation of the human eye that it can focus only on one space at a time and that it takes a certain amount of time to refocus on a different space.

This has been partially rectified in the recent change making UI elements movable under base UI, but it still sucks.

SPOILER ALERT: The 5 billion notifications and countdowns you get from the raid leader are from the boss mods. If you're using those, you're still using the addon.

Its the biggest reason as to why I stopped using DBM about a week into naxx and never looked back.

Blizzard UI is fine and offers most of what you need. The only addon that might be necessary is Omni CC.

If you say you can't play with the blizzard UI because it's bad, take a little bit of time to realize you're bad.

Depends on your class

for example: in BC the pet ui was absolutely horrid - the default frame didn't even update in real time.

ie. pet's health

The only part of the default UI I could never stand was the party frames, they just look ugly.

So, do you have eyes capable of focusing on multiple points at once?

Properly modding the UI to overcome its inherent limitations is a form of skill, just like proper itemization.

Any player that plays at a certain level doing something wrong can play better doing it right. That's true of using incorrect gearing, and it's true of modding, too.

Being content not playing as well as one could... I would call that being bad.

I was a more than competant shadow priest for most of BC/Beginning of wrath w/ 0 addons and the default UI, yes looking at the upper right hand corner to monitor procs is a huge pain while avoiding boss aggro and abilities, but hell if you can master the hard way everything is easy in comparison.

Life is hard. It's harder when you're stupid.
WoW is difficult (or can be). It's more difficult when you're bad.

Stupidity is a cunning deficit.
Badness is a skill deficit.

Capacity to solve problems is a form of cunning.
That form of cunning makes life easier.

Capacity to use mods properly is a form of skill.
That form of skill makes the difficult easier.

You can prevail in life through other qualities than cunning...you can have technical knowledge, charm, or sheer persistence.
You can prevail in WoW through other skills than that of using mods...you can have fast reaction time, superior tactical instinct, or better knowledge of mechanics and itemization.

In both respects, though, if you turn down that which makes you a stronger contender within the framework of the contest - life or WoW - then you're making the choice to stay stupid, or bad, as the case may be.

At least, that's how I see it.

Well so far it looks like more people succeeded using the blizzard ui instead of addons. The basuc ui offers as much as you need, and its pretty clean.
