Archaeology botting is probably more detrimental to the economy
Absolutely not.
Fishing/mining/herbing are much greater gold-per-hour, and unlike mining and herbing, the mats produced are useful to no one but archaelogists. Since archaeology is neither intrinsically fun nor a source of revenue, all botting really does is trickle down to other archaeologists who get cheaper keystones.
Hence my belief that the ban was motivated mostly by resentment at what was objective evidence the much-heralded new secondary prof was so bad, players didn't want to play it.
It's also possible Blizzard cynically believed archaeology botters were more hardcore and thus would be more likely to resub, giving the company more cash. Like many views held by the current dev team, such a belief, if present, betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the playerbase. Most hardcore players see their commitment as a going concern, and someone like Brykon is going to be a lot less inclined to start over fresh than someone like Mazeltov replacing a 80 DK mining bot.
A significant factor in my decision to cancel sub, and at most buy gamecards with gold, is that I simply won't reward such contempt with my money.
