Elder Scrolls Online could be good, if implemented well, and if they can solve the challenges of translating a single player RPG to have characteristics appropriate for an MMO. I feel like the Elder Scroll's Combat system leaves more potential for skill being a factor than something such as WoW in PvP scenarios (see also: Tera)

It could be complete dog shit. Only time will tell, and people who are jumping the gun either way this early are bad and should feel bad.

Da fuck?

You played morrowind for a half hour - and decided you didn't like it? A game like that you have to at least give it a few hours. And what didn't you like about it (and don't say "errors" because that's just absurd)?

I can accept you disliking Skyrim and even Fallout 3....hell even Oblivion...whatever. But Morrowind? Get out of here.

I played Morrowind for an hour or two when i first bought it (a bit after Oblivion came out) and couldn't get into it at all. Thought it was just weird and the combat was arse.

Got into Oblivion a year ago (when the Skyrim hype started picking up) and played the shit out of it.

Bought Skyrim and played the shit out of it.

Installed Morrowind yesterday. After i get the pretty graphics mods and shit i'll likely play the shit out of it.

Not sure what to make of an online Elder Scrolls. If it's not super open world then to me it's not an Elder Scrolls game, and i don't know how you can translate than to an MMO and have me still give a shit about the game.

Combat in Elder Scrolls games is 100% braindead. It doesn't leave any potential open for skill, it's CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK. You have one attack. Use until target dies.

this is why. i don't care how "rich" the world is. if it's atrocious to play, then it isn't drawing me in.

I was able to ignore how bad the combat was in Morrowind because the world was very different and they put a lot of work into making it cool and nonstandard. Trees are giant mushrooms instead. All of the fauna is vaguely insectoid and neat-looking. Shit, humans aren't even the dominant humanoid. And you could kill anyone you wanted, instead of this bullshit "target is unconscious because they're plot-relevant."

Oblivion? Everyone's a human, even the nonhumans. Also, the monsters are wolves and bears and shit, instead of being awesome, alien-looking fantasy monsters. I don't give a shit about things that exist in real life.

Skyrim? Same fucking problem. Oh no guys, polar bears and more wolves! The humans are slightly different, because now they're VIKINGS! It's fine, there's also dragons. But wait, they're so easy to kill you might as well be fighting a target dummy.

What if they gave users 'yellow damage' type abilities to be used as well as cooldowns, but required manual use of autoattack / shield block type abilities? I feel like this would be a good way to move forward.

Yes, yes, I see. How about an option to change one's combat perspective? Examples being a stance or possibly an aura.

Edit: Are we still fucking around with wow combat terms? Anyway, you don't play Skyrim for the combat. Simple enough.

except an RPG with shit combat is completely unbearable to play through. i would go as far to say that baldur's gate combat is pretty shit in terms of how fun it is, but it at least requires thought and preparation. skyrim is literally mash your mouse button and hope some retarded execution animation doesn't kill you from full health, since you can do nothing about it. the only times i managed to die in that game was where some asshole nowhere even close to me somehow lops my head off in some fixed animation that comes from fucking nowhere.

All I'm saying is that an Elder Scrolls / traditional MMO combat system hybrid would be amazing, and could make up for the weaknesses of each in their standard form, at least in my opinion.
