If you get to turn 5 with a goblin deck to hardcast Coat of Arms, you've already lost.

EDIT: I'm not even sure if goblins are worth it in I'm guessing T2. Piledrivers and Lackeys are long since gone, as are siege-gangs.

We've never went by any tournament rules. The only rule has been 'don't be a cunt' - ie. roll a deck that's going to win most of the time with little thought.

That being said, I'm not going to have lackeys or piledrivers because I'm not dropping 15 bucks on single cards. Xeoni's advice was quickly taken upon discovering Coat of Arms are ~5 bucks a head.

Is it required or courtesy to roll a deck to standard if I were to visit a FNM?

I've only visited two different FNM events and they've both been standard only.

FNMs generally have two play styles active: standard, and draft
if you were to show up and then slam down a jace, the mind sculptor, you'd get yourself b&

Are these things tournaments? I was under the impression you just went and played. Is there an entrance fee like the old Yugioh tournaments I went to?

My google-fu is probably bad.

Also, every format except modern smells bad to me.

they're generally DCI-sanctioned events, with a ~$6 event fee with that money covering the prizes for the winners

Welp, I went for a Standard compliant deck.

Because it was loads cheaper, and I'd like to be able to play at some FNM in the not too distant future.

I don't have a deck list yet, I bought a number of things that were dirt cheap and I'll go from there when they are delivered.

Did I mention MTG Familiar? It's a super tits app. All that needs to be said.

Also, on the off chance you or someone you know rolls their own smokes, and they roll 100's, MTG cards fit perfectly in the boxes the filtered tubes come in.

Hey, so Greg... I became 'that guy' who shows up to game theory with a $500 deck yesterday. There was a $1k tournament with an entry fee of $25 that a friend and I attended. Played a Naya deck which I named "Thunderthrag Helltusk" which relied on thragtusk for lifegain and Thundermaws for one of the win conditions. Placed 5th which won me $50. I gave 25 to my friend which paid for our entry fees, went home, got high, and called it a day.

Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. I learned that 3 Centaur Healers in the sideboard is not enough to deal with the aggressiveness that is falkenrath aristocrat and hellrider.

i haven't played mtg in probably a month
i just get burned out real quick every time i get back into it
mostly because ben will just start funneling his paychecks into more cards, and i just can't be bothered to make my way up to game theory after 5 o'clock

I have all of those cards. They're worth something?!

I should sell those before I leave.

Sell me Hellriders on the cheap, or trade me, or both.

Rate my not so terrible Captain Kirk deck

4x Blood Artist
4x Kalastria Highborn
4x Gatekeeper of Malakir
4x Stromkirk Captain
4x Vampire Nighthawk
4x Rakish Heir
4x Bloodline Keeper -> Lord Of Lineage
3x Vampire Nocturnus
= 31

2x Sign in Blood
2x Blade of the Bloodchief
3x Urge to Feed
= 7

4x Dragonskull Summit
4x Mountain
14x Swamp
= 22

My spells are kinda meh, but Urge to Feed keeps the theme going at least. Otherwise I would replace that with Feast of Blood. Or go with Dreadbore (Adding more red is kinda eh for me) or something like Ultimate Price. Definitely want to add in Falkenrath Aristocrat but not sure what to replace. Vampire Nocturnus is a great card when the effect works no doubt, but maybe it's worthwhile to swap them around.

My spell count is a lot lower than it could probably be, but I don't know of any good or great cards to add in. As it stands right now, I could likely swap the Kalastria Highborn's and Blade of the Bloodchief's out and not notice anything, but adding in the Falkenrath Aristocrat's would likely change this.

Gob Mob, if any of you nigs want a viable, and cheap (Krenko and Warchief's only ones over $2 IIRC, nothing over 4) goblin deck. Not Standard compliant.

4 Krenko, Mob Boss
4 Goblin Warchief
1 Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician (Got for free, could easily replace for a Matron, funnily enough, his effect for sacrificing mountains for tokens won me a close game.)
3 Goblin Matron
3 Guttersnipe
4 Clickslither
4 Mogg Flunkies
4 Goblin Arsonist

27

4 Flames of the Firebrand
2 Lightning Bolt
2 Searing Spear (Because stacking 4 Lightning Bolts felt turbofag)
4 Krenko's Command

12

21 Mountain

This is what I have so far for a Dimir Mill Deck. I decided to make it because I made an awful attempt at making a mill deck years ago, and had many Dimir cards already (including four expensive as fuck Glimpses). My desire to roll a Dimir deck was further spurred by the upcoming Consuming Aberration.

3 Consuming Aberration
4 Hedron Crab
4 Jace's Phantasm
4 Vampire Nighthawk (because I'm good at this game, if somebody has a better theme appropriate card, let me know)
2 Dimir Infiltrator (Could make into Dimir Cutpurse, but I never seem to be able to get use from Cutpurse, though I'm not sure why)

17

4 Glimpse the Unthinkable
4 Tome Scour
4 Boomerang
3 Sign in Blood
3 Remand
3 Mind Funeral
3 Dimir Machinations

24

4 Drowned Catacomb
9 Island
8 Swamp

21

I'm as of right now, disappointed about how ineffective Consuming Aberration has been. Generally, once I get it out, Meowth has enough creatures out to throw one at it for a few turns, and usually pulls out a win before I stomp his creatures into nothing.

I'm gonna try some Rite of Consumption for some lolwins.
