Generally I do not believe that men and women can remain platonic friends. The only exceptions for me are friends wives or girlfriends or family members. Otherwise, the sexual tension is inevitable, at least on one side, and that always leads to awkwardness and usually either cessation of true friendship or just a remaining "pretendship" once someone makes a move and falls flat.
