I've always assumed extradition was mostly political. Quid pro quo. That's why we can get people extradited from places like England...but it becomes substantially more difficult if you were trying to get someone from say, France.

That's why I'd be sure to escape to some place unfriendly to the US.

There's a difference between "unfriendly to the US and a place you can drone strike" and "mildly uninterested in the US with no extradition treaty in place."
