Aestu, while all of these are good tips for overall fitness, it seems you're wanting to have upper body strength and you're looking for hypertrophy. I can recommend a great book for you that can help you ectomorph.
I got a C in upper-div Greek. I'm trying to get through Prophecies before Vanquishing and farming FoW. I haven't played FNV in a while but I always get the STR implant third.

It's called Starting Strength. It will help you understand basic barbell exercises so you can avoid messing around too much in gyms (since they can be overwhelming). Also, your diet sucks for hypertrophy. You need three things: Oats, chicken, and broccoli. Anything else can be secondary since you enjoy it and it doesn't seem to be detrimental. Obviously water has a priority but V8 is good too and 100% fruit juices. No soda, candy, or chips as they are empty calories and it's best for your overall morale to assume these don't exist.
I drink mostly seltzer and diet soda. I only drink regular Coke when I need it to treat migraines and help me relax. My father liked V8, to me it tastes like sludge. But I do like Prego, which is basically the same thing, I guess.
I do not like most candy, although I do have a weakness for Turkish Delights, which are 50/50 given they are made with real plant matter and not HFCS. I cannot eat chips - my palate is very sensitive to the abrasive texture due to a birth defect.
I do not eat chicken; I've been a vegetarian for over a decade. I love broccoli, particularly with sauce. I like oats. I don't think that will be a problem.

I used to be about 120lbs and I thought working out and gyms were for meatheads and highschool football jock asshats but then I got sucked into it by a friend and found out I honestly enjoy the process of setting goals and achieving them while making myself look better and feel better. Now I weigh 180 and look like a brick shit house. Once you establish a good base for yourself you can branch out from there, deciding what you'd like to do with your body. It's a good feeling. Check out that book, set some goals and ask me if you have any questions. I'm not certified or anything, but fitness is a hobby of mine and I know quite a bit.
I enjoyed working out with a friend during my sophomore year of college. I never really got back into it - I do not enjoy activities that do not seem to have a "point".
Thanks for the extremely detailed, on-point advice. This is exactly what I wanted to know. I'll get the book and direct my questions to you!

I just noticed this lol. Most pre-workout supplements they sell give you near tunnel-vision amounts of focus. There could be naked dudes lifting on both sides of you and you'd have no idea. One time my gym had a fire alarm and I had no idea until someone physically tapped me on the shoulder, prompting me to take my headphone out and find out what he wanted.
Whenever there are fire alarms - here, at my apartment, or in the dorm - I always just ignore them and keep doing what I'm doing. I've never been bothered, if I were I'd just say I had my headphones on.
I don't like using chems, even legal ones, that alter perception.
I always eat and read at the same time, because I find both activities boring. Many people find this behavior strange, and I have never understood why. I can't imagine that it wouldn't seem perfectly natural to everyone to read while eating.
By the same token, I don't like working out because it seems incredibly boring.
What I want is to be able to somehow use my mind while I'm working out - as long as my mind is active, I don't get bored. I don't like music. I'm thinking of audiobooks or buying a music stand and putting printed pages on it. Ideas?
Thanks again for the great advice.

Also, I do like to bike, but Boston is not bike friendly, and I only like to bike if I'm going somewhere. I've been meaning to get around to sitting down and talking to Fanta about moving.
