While I disagree with your premise, I can appreciate that you used Jubber's own retarded position against him.

Question: Why does it seem like a majority of recording artists, graphic designers, etc. use Apple products?

I'm not being a dick, I'm asking why. If they sucked, you'd think everyone would be using PCs.

Apple's world-wide market share is below 5%...
Apple's USA market share is around 10%...

Pretty much EVERYONE is using PCs.

I think there are four reasons people like/use Apple computers.

1) It's the same reason people visit Starbucks, have thick-framed glasses or wear skinny jeans -- they like fitting in.
2) Companies perpetuate the myth that Apple products are better for graphic design, music and video editing. Because of this, they buy the products and the hapless souls that use them do it out of necessity. Personal use at home by these types is because of familiarity.
3) Stupid people believe that Apple computers are better, more reliable systems. "Apple computers never get viruses!" Neither do I, dipshits.
4) They're Apple fanboys. They want people to know they paid way more than necessary to get sub-par performance out of a laptop or desktop, and they'll do everything to tell you like plastering the backside of their car with Apple logo stickers, camping out for weeks for the latest re-skin of their over-priced hardware, or by crying in the street when Steve Jobs blue screened himself.

All good points - I was asking specifically about recording artists / graphic designers / etc. though

why do people in the "arts" tend to use Apple Computers quite a bit?

I know many musicians, interior designers, photographers, all of them are using Apple computers.

If I had to guess, the same reason they got into the arts in the first place. They lack a utilitarian mindset.

My second guess is just that misinformed people are propagating the idea that OSX is substantially more simple to use.

The fact of the matter is you can do graphic design/audio/video editing just as well on a PC.

I love how people deride Windows as "the operating system you use for Excel." As if getting shit done was somehow a bad thing.

Also, I'm reluctant to get Windows 8. The interface doesn't look efficient to me, but I can't say I've tried it yet. Perhaps I'll go mess around in a brick and mortar store that has it.

Even if Windows 8 doesn't suck, there needs to be a reason -FOR- dropping $ on an operating system. Otherwise, why not stick to Windows 7 until they discontinue support for it (i.e., wait until Windows 9)?

2001 was a long time ago. Photoshop and friends aren't made specifically for Mac OS anymore then ported to Windows. It's a similar thing with Apple computers in schools now. They got a large discount from Apple to use them. Though whether they Bootcamp into Windows I have no idea, but of the several schools I deliver to I see quite a few.

It's because they had standard computer hardware to interface to other hardware. The biggest thing with g3/4/5 macs was the low latency with music devices when recording. They lost that edge.

Myriad of pc hardware equates to incompatibilities.

Instead of clicking an actual start orb you click the corner and the metro screen pops up. Not mentioning behind the scenes improvements, that's really about it. Otherwise right click the corner and get everything else easily as before. That's your $15 worth.

You can get stuff from the app store and someone mentioned it was similar to Xbox live, so take that however you like.
