The storm turned me gay: I'm supposed to take an absolutely beautiful woman to a show at the Kennedy Center tomorrow, but I'm hoping it gets cancelled and I get my tickets refunded. Don't want to drive into DC while this is going on, and as much as I'd dearly love to have this woman all to myself for an evening, I'd rather have the $400 back and do something else.

I have decided to begin stockpiling non-perishable goods and survival gear, just in case this winter is rough. As with everything else, I believe in taking a low-tech, super-cheap approach, based on "what I know works", rather than buying those stupid kits or overpriced goods.

Items I plan to stockpile include:
-Rice
-Rubbing alcohol
-Vodka
-Talcum powder
-Batteries
-Laxatives
-Q-tips
-Cotton balls
-Gauze
-Three laboratory dissection kits
-Hacksaw, axe, machete, crowbar and sledgehammer
-Water
-Gatorade
-Dried coffee
-Canned soup
-Cloth

I already bought most of the items today.

My knowledge of history tells me it would be wise to stockpile a very large quantity of cigarettes, and I recommend everyone else do the same. Especially if you don't smoke.

Incidentally, anyone know where I can buy a ton of cheap imported cigarettes?

You're missing FIRE on that list.

Lighters, water proof matches, candles and I have a couple oil lamps. Also not a bad idea to have extra antibiotics and proper bandaids/bandages. Rice, flour, sugar, salt and spices.

It's hard for me to make a real list though since I have a lot of "stuff" available. Camping gear is "survival gear" and I have all manner of tools available for construction, fabrication, terraforming/farming and auto work, though I would love to have a real lathe : [
