I never denied it was illegal. I'm just pointing out that there is a tremendous amount of sound and fury over what amounts to people avoiding a bit of bureaucracy. People break laws all the time, including almost everyone who rails so hard about illegal immigration. What is it about illegal immigration that makes it so much more important than all the other laws people break casually every day?

Drug trade. I know a couple whose child was kidnapped in mexico and found dead three days later in Texas. It had been sliced open and used as a mule for drugs.

That sounds like an urban legend to me. It's almost impossible to cross a border at a legal crossing with a minor who isn't your child, and if you're crossing at an illegal crossing why bother taking a child with?

Since you live in Ontario, and have no clue about living day to day with the impact of illegal immigrants on your life and your city, the importance lies in the burden these people place on citizens. What if you couldn't get health care, or other social services, or had to wait terribly long for them? What if your local taxes increased dramatically? What if jobs became scarce, and the wages for available jobs dropped? What if crime and drugs in your city increased? What if your local police were overwhelmed? What if traffic increased dramatically, and unlicensed/uninsured drivers were a threat to you? What if the schools your children attend had to stop providing some classes in order to offer illegal immigrants lessons in language? What if your property values plummeted?

I guarantee you'd see what was so important then. Holy shit! There are around 1.4 MILLION illegal immigrants in Texas alone. If you can see how officials in Ontario shit in their pants over 7,000 illegal Mexican immigrants, maybe you can understand how the problems in the southern U.S. might be just a little out of control. You see the difference now between 1.4 million illegal immigrants destroying our lifestyles in Texas and some of our citizens speeding in their car? I sure hope it's obvious.

The construction industry in the Toronto area depends on illegal immigrants to supply a significant part of their workforce. I might not have a house to live in if it wasn't for them. Where's your evidence that illegal immigrants are actually harmful to American citizens? You're blaming a lot of things on illegal immigrants, but is there any actual evidence that they're causing any of these things? Or is this another case where evidence doesn't matter, and simply believing that illegal immigrants are harmful makes it true?

I live with this attack on my state and my city, every day. I pay the extra taxes. My wife teaches in the public school system and my kids attended those schools, so I know firsthand the impact there. I deal with the services bogged down and cut because of these people. I live with the crimes these people commit around me. Yes, that was an illegal immigrant who came into my business with a sawed-off shotgun and pointed it at my 70 year old parents (I'll be the first to admit that most of the illegal immigrants do not commit crimes outside of entering illegally, but too many of them do). I have all the "evidence" I need to realize the very real impact these people have had and are having on MY life and MY city. Your province cries over 7,000 who "might" show up, and I suppose exploits the cheap labor of the ones they decide to let stay to build you housing. My state deals with 1.4 million. You don't have to be a genius to figure out that if 1.4 million people didn't do anything but breathe, drink water, eat bread, shit and have babies, you'd have a huge resource crunch. I wonder if you're just playing devil's advocate. Man, I sure hope that is the case.
