Can anyone recommend some games like... empire building ones, not RTS. I don't want an RTS. Ones where you start off with a small whatever, and build up to greatness and hopefully can take a lot of time doing so.

Games i've liked which are along this vein would be Master of Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic, Sim City. SIM TOWER. Man i had the best tower when i was like 10! Theme Park was good times too.

I guess anything along these kinda lines, just something i can sink some time into over a long period of time.

Civilization? I haven't played IV much, but it's quite nice and V looks like it will be even better. If you play on Marathon mode a single game takes many hours. I also really enjoyed the demo of Dawn of Discovery, but I haven't tried the full game.

Steam is an application made by Valve that is required to play any Valve game.

You set up an account, associate game codes with that account, works wonders on anti-piracy.

It is a game store and social center. It's like the iTunes store, except for video games. But you can use it to chat, directly join a server someone is playing on, has an in-game overlay, etc.

Also used for updating games and backing them up.

How many times did someone get fucked around a corner, pushed off the ledge or sucked into fire in the first section?

Lolol.

Best thing too, Dead Center is considered one of the easier maps. Still has some killer crescendos though.

The alarm one in the mall is a bitch, especially when the game decides to send a few swarms after you turned the alarm off.

Spacehunter, the Civilization games (2 and 3 in my opinion, though 4 is also pretty cool) are the greatest empire-building games ever in the history of the universe. Just as Pieface said.

If destruction exists, we must destroy everything.

The thing was we did alright up to the alarm in the mall and that entire level. But Christ the finale was ridiculously hard. I've actually found Hard Rain to be my favorite on expert, but then again I wasn't playing with dumbasses and they know how to not disturb witches.

in for:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
CIV VI
CIV VI Beyond the Sword
CIV VI Colonization
CIV VI Warlords
Audiosurf
Overlord
Overlord 2
Overlord: raising hell

cost: less than 30 bucks (KOTOR had a large hand in that)

Also, I really recommend psychonauts for anyone that hasn't played it yet.
