We should see 16-bit versus ultramodern graphics the way we see charcoal pencils versus oil paintings.

Recently played the Scott Pilgrim video game, it was an 8 bit side scrolling street fighting game ala Streets of Rage, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's not the same. No one wants to see a grainy 1920s movie anymore, story quality aside.

there are at least 5, maybe 10 RPGs for the snes that are better in every way than current gen rpg's, minus graphics and voice acting.

I'd grant you that, but for starters I'm not even sure that's true. The best RPG of all time didn't come out until 2000 (Baldur's Gate 2), after all, and there's been some worthy subsequent releases (like Skies of Arcadia, Mass Effect, some people will argue KotOR or Dragon Age and probably some jRPGs I've never heard of, etc).

Baldur's gate isn't what i would call a modern rpg though, at least not in the sense that the others you named are.

It was heavy on story and gameplay, and less on graphics.

This

Also I don't see how KotOR would be on that list either. Maybe I'm just a masochist but every RPG that I find "great" is difficult. Stat whoring was so stupidly easy and with master speed/flurry, enjoy hitting 5x a round for like 90 damage a swing and one shotting everything. I'm not saying it was a bad game, but it was never really a challenge and the villains sucked, other then the Revan twist in the first one.

HK-47 wins an internet or two though.
