With the exception of chasing people down, what was too aggressive? The people that got maced were the people who were standing out on the street. The cops were outnumbered by a significant margin, they couldn't try to arrest every person there. Loudspeakers and lights were met with beer bottles. The cops were in the right, and their response was well within acceptable practices (aside from the things mentioned earlier).

Lol, you can't claim my statement is false by saying that the very thing which proves it is merely an exception. Chasing people down/macing/beating on them was too aggressive.

The students were dumb for not clearing out of the street immediately. They didn't have an official permit for a block party or anything so they shouldn't have been in the street.

Both parties are at fault here.

I didn't read anything about the police chasing students down and beating them... anyone got a story for me to ready?

It's not the cops fault that 1000 kids decided to violate open container or public intoxication laws.

Open container/public intoxication laws are retarded. Randomly spraying hundreds of people with pepper spray is not a judicious application of force. The only thing about this I approve of so far is that the idiots that took a swing at cops got their asses beat.

1000 kids on their own block with permission to be there. Oh god don't expect a college kid to drink. Be fuckin serious, you can preach all you want. Plain and simple macing the crowd was idiotic and careless. Macing the assholes throwing beer cans at you is a different story, they weren't selective about it. They did a spray an pray to any and all even people clearly turning to leave as seen in the video.

Also that news site said a cruiser was in front of the police van and kids were jumping on it? Where is the cruiser? The video goes pretty far down the road.

Doesn't really matter what anyone says they will get away with it because they have a badge and are above the law right.

Did they have permission for a block party by getting a permit or are we just assuming they did? Furthermore, does getting a permit or being a college student entitle them to somehow be above the laws? They were blocking the road. They were drunk in public. They were loud which is probably a violation of a noise ordinance. Some of the kids were dancing in front of the police van, throwing stuff at the officers and attempting to kick the vehicle. Hell, the article you linked said the police were responding to a disorderly crowd.

As for the cruiser... it tried to get through the mob (because it said attempt) but was unsuccessful. A minute later, other cruisers started blocking the road and the van led the way. I'm guessing the cruiser you're wondering about reversed from the mob and helped block off the road. You didn't see the cruisers because the vantage point of the camera man was looking away from the direction in which the van was coming. I'm thinking that we would've seen the cruisers if the camera man filmed more to his left.

The first, larger vehicle in the video seemed to be progressing through the crowd despite it being so large and "disorderly." I don't think that "we were dispersing them so we could get through" shit is gonna fly.
