Try.

Azelma wrote:
I realize my accomplishments mean nothing - and I only shoved them in your face in an attempt to both provide it as validation and counter your claim that if I were fired tomorrow I wouldn't be able to get another job. I would, and I stand by that statement.

I sought validation by saying "well look at the job I've had and the things I've gone through. You haven't gone through these things yet you judge me" That's not a good way of making the point. The point is this:

It means something or it doesn't.

You don't get to eat your cake and have it too. You don't get to play the fatalist then claim your worldly stuff is somehow proof of your wisdom.

Azelma wrote:
What have you done? Really. What are you doing to change the world? What are you doing to impact the universe? Your validation came because some Blizzard employees that despised you "respect your greatness"? That is better than my validation of my career and unique skill sets?

I try.

I don't need to spin the cosmos. It's enough that I ask difficult questions and try to use what I learn to do the right thing.

Maybe in your mind - but really we're equally worthless.

WE CANT KNOW EVERYTHING SO WE CANT KNOW ANYTHING SO NOTHING CAN BE RIGHT OR WRONG SO IM RIGHT BECAUSE NOTHING CAN BE RIGHT OR WRONG SO I CANT BE WRONG

Why are you so great Aestu?

I'm singular, and you're not.

I'm bigger than the small petty selfish material concerns of life, bigger than the immediate surroundings, than this time and place, and you're not.

Azelma wrote:
Have you discovered a cure for something? Have you created a business that employees people? Have you created a business that employees people and makes a positive impact on the world? Do you regularly help the sick and the needy? Have you ever supported someone emotionally in their time of need?

You are projecting.

There is not this sharp duality you like to draw between selfish hedonistic pothead and Mother Teresa.

That said, I have done at least a few of those things.

Azelma wrote:
That's the thing that frustrates me most about you, Aestu. You have judged me, and most everyone else on this forum harshly. But are you so much better? Because you've read quite a few books...you are therefore better?

Yes, I am.

Or do you think ignorance is as good as wisdom?

Azelma wrote:
The difference between you and I is I've experienced things you never have (and perhaps never will).

You prove my point.

Such is the totality of your ignorance that you think knowledge is useless.

Azelma wrote:
You are an armchair philosopher. You could sit all day and tell me about something like relationships with a woman (and you would). But I know more about it than you could ever hope to learn. No book can tell you about it. I dated a woman for almost 5 years. I know more about it than you.

You prove my point.

There are 6.2 billion people on this planet, almost all of whom were the product of the sex act, most often involving some courtship.

Clearly, dating is a pretty damn feeble basis for your self-valuation.

And even by that measure you gauge poorly. Do you have a wife, a family? What sort of a father are you? Did you raise your children to be smart, wise, successful, compassionate? Honestly I do not believe you have the strength of character to be a good father, but that is indeed only my own personal conjecture, albeit one supported by what we know of you.

In any event, the very fact you try to argue on such a banal basis proves my point: your very world view is inherently petty.

Azelma wrote:
It was just like when you tried to tell me about ranking in Google and SEO. All you knew was what you read in a few articles about spammers. You then projected that onto me, and assumed that's how we did things.

You continued to disagree even as your own facts proved me correct, this is consistent with your behavior.

Azelma wrote:
And yet you judge me - I guess that's the only thing you know how to do.

Everyone judges. Judging is not wrong. Judging unfairly is wrong.

People who demonize judging are the most unjust judges of all because they judge, just like everyone else, but don't have the strength of character to do so in a thoughtful and impartial way. So they just get by on their own unquestioned biases.

And that is why I am indeed better than you. I subject my own views to careful scrutiny.

Azelma wrote:
For someone who is so smart, and so great, you'd think you wouldn't be in a situation where you'll be pushing 30 with no career to speak of. Men like Usdk and I get out and live life. Maybe they aren't as smart as you on paper - but they are doing a whole lot more than you ever will.

I thought you said that doesn't matter? Or does it? Which is it?

Answer me: what is "life" to you?

Azelma wrote:
You once said life isn't a gift. I disagree. It IS a gift. Life is generally worthless in the end, but it's on us to enjoy it as much as we can. I'm doing that - I know that much.

Ok, so your basis for valuing life is enjoyment. If we were to presume I was perfectly happy living off my parents' money etc, then wouldn't it logically follow that my life is at least as good as yours?

Or do you want to change your central premise?

I think my thread title is even more pertinent than I expected it to be.
