Absolutely this. I have my ipod on and my headphones in and I enjoy the music I'm listening to, but I rarely hear it except for in between sets. I see a lot of cardio bunnies in the gym and they read books or fart around with their ipads while walking or jogging. There is a huge difference between going to the gym, jogging a bit/pushing out some reps, and actually working out. If you can pay attention to a book or the music you hear you're not exerting yourself to your full capacity.
100% !!!
A full arms work out for me would take maybe 30 minutes sitting here in my room (i have dumbbells, pull up bar, a bench, possibly something else i'm forgetting). The time flies. Except resting. But i'm usually in such a buzz between sets that boredom isn't even on the cards. Actually what is really boring is changing up the weights between exercises. I want to buy some more so i don't need to do this anymore.
Can't speak for actual gyms as i haven't set foot in one for 8 years or so. Again, if you're going to a gym and you're bored you might as well just go for a run and save yourself money because that's all you're accomplishing.
I was going to recommend reading while on a stationary bike because it's probably the easiest way to feel like you are accomplishing two things at once (I was never able to read while running too much head movement). But if you want to work out your arms/shoulder/back a audiobook would probably be best. You can rent them from the library often or find them online/buy them for cheap at secondhand type stores.

I watch Archer or Futurama while on a stationary bike.
No I don't smoke, but if you're not used to running and you run a mile at about a 6-8 minute mile pace, you're going to throw up. The time i'm referring to was when i was just getting started after ~ 7 years on my ass.
That's probably what I'll do. It's not a question of "feeling like I'm accomplishing two things", I'm just very easily bored, especially by pointless exertion.
If I am at an intersection or walking through a room, I will think what the fastest way across is.
Not at all. It's quite simple. I feel there's a difference between exerting to lift something you want to move and bicycling somewhere you want to go, and exerting or bicycling just to burn. That's all.
Is that too "wormy" for you? Or is my answer simple and satisfactory?

I think there's a difference too, being all about efficiency I'd ideally want my work/school/random commutes to be by foot or bicycle and get majority of my exercise that way instead of car or public transportation but that's not realistic for me right now so they both have their place.
Exercise has enough benefits to merit doing it on its own though. I do it as a hobby so I'm not an expert but there's the obvious physical and cardiovascular benefits, then you can go and look up a ton of research on the benefits from those suffering from depression and anxiety, disease prevention, stress relief, creative thinking, cognition, etc... If you're exercising outdoors the benefit of the sun, vitamin D.
Maybe it's boring because you just do stuff you don't like, personally I find any sort of cardio on a machine (stationary bike, treadmill, etc) excruciatingly boring and if I can barely last 30 minutes on a good day, but put me outside and I can do the same exercise for hours. Walking I can listen to something (I like Joe Rogan Experience), biking I can go to easy and just let random thoughts run through my mind, or go hard and listen to my tires spin on the road, focus on my cadence, breathing, etc...
You should try it out. The endorphins might even make you feel good.

I used to try to study on the elliptical like all the other chicks I saw, but then I realized I was moving way too much. They must be lazing around on those things. My gym does have TVs in front of the stationary bikes, so I will generally put on an hour long show and go as hard as I can till the show's over. It's gotta be a show I can get into, though.
