I generally only consider the cop a douche if you're speeding by 5 or less. Even then, you're still speeding though.

Anything beyond your free 5mph over the limit is asking for it.

I was more referring to the cop being mad at him for getting stuck in the ditch than the cop who got him for speeding.

Cops are just like everyone else. There are good cops and bad cops. There are cops that you catch on a bad day who bone you, and cops you catch on a good day that let you slide. There are fat cops, thin cops, short cops, tall cops, black cops, white cops...I don't think I've ever seen an Asian cop...you get the picture.

I prefer the bad ones. They're easier to bribe.

There are a lot of comparisons that can be made to argue the belief that the US is becoming a police state. That much is true. I would stop short of calling it one though. I definitely believe it is in danger of becoming one, however.

Free speech zones, with us or against us black-and-white thinking, Patriot act, war on an idea (terrorism, drugs), warrantless wiretapping...come on seriously?

I don't think we're quite to the level of NK or China or anything like that, but we need to actively assess the type of fucked up shit going on in this country before it gets to that point.

While America isn't a police state to the extent of something like 1984...it is becoming more and more so.

Consider:

-Camera's at intersections (traffic lights), random places outside buildings, etc. etc. - Basically, if you are walking down a sidewalk in a city, there's a good chance you are on camera (good for crime prevention, I'll agree...but that's exactly like a police state)
-Monitoring of internet activity. The government has already tried to get everyone's search history (luckily Google wouldn't play ball), but they can search your e-mail, if you have a web site...check your facebook...really anything they want.
-Guantanamo Bay
-TSA. Take one trip to the airport and you'll realize what a police state this has become. When 5 year old kids are getting patted down (over their genitals etc), you know it has become a police state.
