If Weiner had vigorously supported denying rights to people, then was caught in the very same issue he's trying to fuck everyone else about, we wouldn't let it slide. If he was basing a large portion of his credit before this on his support of denying people the ability to post on the internet and jail terms for people who post dick pics on twitter, this would be an issue.
Those of us letting it slide realize that he did nothing illegal, and that there is a difference between commiting a crime and doing something personally stupid and disrespectful to your wife. You might notice, no one called for Santorum to resign when they learned about his wife's partial-birth, and no one is citing that as a reason he shouldn't run for president (not that he stands the slightest chance in hell).
