I must reluctantly say that having played the expansion more it is growing on me like mold on a pre-fab.
Perhaps there is some fundamental truth there; games and expansions that initially appear euphorically awesome (Cata/GW2/Rift/etc) ultimately don't quite pan out. Those that initially appear highly questionable but have some draw that just keep you coming back for more (Vanilla/TBC/STO) are the real winners in the long run.
The quality and character of MoP is highly variable from place to place, and it's clear multiple distinct teams worked on the project in isolation from each other. And as with Ulduar, one can clearly see where the A-team was let out of the freezer.
(I also believe it's very possible that my input played a large role -
see post 134; note in particular suggestions about the world environment and paladin class changes)
I did the rehashed instances. They're a mixed bag. In some aspects they are very clever and original (in ways that suggest that the A-team worked on them, such as the polyformic acid boss and the new Jandice), in others they are unsatisfying (excessive linearity, too short and too trivial, lacking in optional things to do and replay value). I would need to see Challenge Mode before coming to a final conclusion.
The one new faction I unequivocally like are the Klaxxi. The Klaxxi are what the Nerubians could have been and what the Knights of the Ebon Blade should have been. They are grim without being emo. They are unfriendly without being whimsically rude. Their homeland is inhospitable without being hideously barren like Hellfire or trite like Icecrown or unappealing like Shadowmoon Valley. They are a genuinely original creation. Although much of their lore is clearly borrowed from the Norse culture, they feel original in their own right. The outdoor mobs are complex and well-tuned and clearly designed by better devs.
Unfortunately, it doesn't take long at all to cap rep with the faction, and they don't seem to play half as prominent a role in the expansion as they ought to, which is a shame given that (like the squidgoat and Nerubians) they appear to be a highly promising if neglected new element in the lore.
And yes I am looking for a challenge/raid team/guild.
