Disagree. Aestu has made very good points regarding WoW and the laziness their development team has made par for the course.
When Vanilla launched, WoWs PvE storyline was well polished and flowed well. The game was more expansive with less zones, bgs and instances. PvP was very rock paper scissors and I recognize not everyone thinks this is a good model. PvE class mechanics were somewhat fail. If you were X class you tanked, Y class you are dps and that's the end of it. I didn't like that aspect. Vanilla gear was fun as fuck. Thekal / Arlokk's Grasp, Benediction / Anathema, Rhok'delar, Parachute Cloak, Edgemaster's Handguards. I just honestly love the unconventional itemization where not everyone had identical gear and stats. The wonky randomness of the gear made it fun as well. I love that Edgemaster's Handguards were so good even at 60 if you were low on hit, despite the item level.
Now itemization is piss easy. Hit X cap, then Y cap and then stack strength until you have X AP and then balance Haste / Mastery. Or some other variant. Everyone knows they can just generalize the stats their class and spec uses to an extent. The guesswork is gone. It's all done for them. 2h Fury Warrior with Nightfall has the job of buffing the raid. It's understood and accepted that his personal dps will suffer, but the gain outweighs the loss. Same goes for Shadow Priests with their Shadow Weaving debuff. You hardly see this kind of thing post TBC.
TBC I think is generally agreed upon to be the best period of time WoW had to offer, for all it's imperfections.
