Yes they can. In a domestic violence call, say between a husband and wife, ONE of them has to leave for like 12 or 24 hours. Not sure about the time frame. There's just a 99% chance that it's the man getting hauled off to spend the night in jail, even if she's the one who started it. And domestic violence started by women is quickly reaching the majority of domestic violence cases.
That wasn't what I was saying at all. I know people generally have joint accounts. I'm talking about in the cases of abuse. A girl I know moved out of state with her boyfriend, and he apparently has been beating the shit out of her on the regular now. She couldn't get out because he makes her sign over her paychecks, and since she has a history of depression, he's making her out to be crazy whenever she calls the police. Doesn't help she keeps trying to kill herself, I guess.
I didn't know that about the domestic calls. I know when a woman comes into the hospital with signs of domestic abuse (we have to ask every woman that comes in, alone, whether she's being abused) there isn't jack shit we can do about it. Figured cops were the same way, and we never had girls forced to stay at the shelter.
Also, when my mom's ex boyfriend tried to bust our door in with a gun, she threw him down and restrained him on the ground until the cops came. They hauled her to jail and let the guy stay in my house with my 12 year old brother and his friend. He busted her head open with the door on the way in.
I guess we're just really unlucky here.
