I could have sworn that with everyone in the west becoming agnostic and/or atheist that Islam surpassed Christianity in the last decade. However, I double-checked, and Christianity still has more adherents than Islam...by a lot.
The influence of Christianity has been on the decline since the Catholic Reformation, it has continued to decline through the Enlightenment, the French Revolution and the Communist era, and yet even as its decline continues apace it will remain a powerful force for centuries to come.
And you don't think that Islam and Hinduism are losing adherents to secularization as well?
Meanwhile, secularization has been a force in the Jewish faith for a very long time. Most Reform Jews believe that whether or not God exists, we have an obligation to do what he expects of us.
Because the Christian relationship with God is more carrot-and-stick, they often find this conviction very difficult to understand.
