Sidenote: Profits of the Fortune 500 companies are almost at pre-depression levels. In 2009 they experienced the second largest one-year profit increase in 56 years, and unemployment remains high.

CLEARLY THEY NEED MORE TAX BREAKS SO THEY CAN HELP US OUT.

This is where I can't understand the disconnect between the parties - YOU FUCKERS AREN'T RICH! NONE OF US HAS BILLIONS AND BILLIONS!! So why are you guys supporting tax breaks for them? I don't get it! Perhaps my brain wasn't tuned to fathom this much dumb.

There's a difference between a tax break and a tax i don't agree with.

I'm not a billionaire, but the federal government took about 30K from me this last year and the state took almost 10K. It's money I earned so why shouldn't I fight for it?

If me, you and Jubber ever get together for lunch, remind me to strong-arm you for whatever money you have in your pocket, just so I can buy Jubber lunch.

How and where do you draw the line versus the Florida debate?

If you'll notice that thread, after reading through several responses, I realized the flaws of my initial position and changed course. Unlike most people, I am always willing to change my opinions when presented with new and convincing information.

Essentially, I think that you should have to pay based on the types of drugs you do. We can all agree that Meth and Marijuana are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of harmful health effects. They need to re-do the rating of drugs by the government - most glaringly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Removal_of ... tances_Act

Because it's not "your money" in question. You're not part of that top 1%.

the billionaires dont have enough influence in washington to have the legislators pawn their shit off on the middle class.

The taxes you did pay go towards schools, roads, etc. You know, the shit everyone uses. In addition, you aren't a billionaire so my comment was directed at your outlook, not your personal taxes. The gov't took 30k from you because you have a stable job, steady income, etc etc. Why do you think someone who isn't as lucky as you should be required to pay as much as you while those who are WAY luckier than you get a break? It doesn't make sense!

And if Jubber was living in poverty and starving, you wouldn't need to strong arm me to get me to pay for his lunch - what do I look like, a republican?

PS when the hell are we getting together anyway???? SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER

Here is the problem. Many Americans think that wealth = worth. If you're rich clearly you deserved it, if you make a lot of money clearly you worked harder than others. On the flip side, if you're in financial trouble you clearly deserved it and have some kind of flaw. The American Dream.

How much of our careers (and how we get them) is attributed to luck? School? Picking a major? Learning a trade? Selling yourself in an interview and keeping yourself marketable? I almost feel that we have a lot of control over our professional paths that luck is such a small, almost non-relevant variable.

Trust fund babies did a lot of research when they chose what families they were born into. It really paid off.
