But if that's all you need they can totally do it.

I'd agree with you with some members, but you didn't mention any talented core. PZ definitely had the core to down harder mobility fights. We never advertised ourselves as a hardcore guild. And I believe they've since disbanded. Great people in the core, knowledgeable players..with filler trash to hold them back.

That's what they all say. Show me the evidence. ICC-10 drakes? ToGC-10 cloaks? Right.

What it most often is, is a circle of buddies telling each other they're amazing. It wasn't me who called the guild "a support group for baddies".

Not really. <Last Chance Rejects> is pretty much filler trash with no one to hold back...and is still the most stable and exclusive guild on the server.

I resent this on the basis that you equate "great" with "PvE success." I know this doesn't actually apply to PZ (as far as I know) and that WotLK PvP in general is laughable, but in BC you couldn't judge a guild's ability by its raiding success, since plenty of the best players didn't ever set foot in anything past Karazhan.

We're talking in the context of PvE and a definition of skilled or not skilled based on PvE prowess. His argument is that this skilled core is held back; typically, a guild's core forms a 10-man; this is the most accessible proof.

The skilled players don't necessarily get along well enough to want to do 10-mans, and sometimes there's just no interest in anything but the dungeons that get you the best loot.

The putative "core" implies getting along, and 10-man heroic definitely drops several best in slot items for every class and spec in every content block it's been available.

This.

The core of any guild to me implies the people who run it, namely the officers, leads, and/or the advisors thereof. They don't necessarily have to get along to still function, as has been my experience (within several guilds).

In Twisted's case, as a for instance, out of our two regular 10-man groups, the furthest/fastest progressed 10m of the two is made up of regular 25m raiding members. The other, similarly progressed 10m has the GM and some officers/leads, although a noticeable less amount over the course of WoTLK from naxx to icc, due to schedule conflicts, disinterest, or demotion.

Success in pve accomplishments doesn't make a guild great. When the guild's environment is unpleasant and suffers, there is no guarantee that people will endure it and that the guild will be there tomorrow. Then all of that success will be for naught.

Playing WoW again in 2018, kill me, thanks
