French government officials intensely hate Muslims, as proven by their recent spate of laws and rulings against them. I fail to see why the opinion of this obscure, disgruntled former judge is authoritative, over every other authority on the planet.

Or why he'd even have any idea of what's happening with the security of other countries. By his own account, that stuff wasn't even his purview.

You can always find some obscure bigot who harbors any given opinion.

Will you explain how you dismissing this person is any different from anyone who disagrees with Israel being called an antisemite?

every side has its flaws.

everyone else's is falling into the trap of generalizing entire groups of people instead of loving their neighbor.

such a shame.

1. Because he's obscure and not authoritative
2. Because the French legal system is known for being singularly bigoted towards these people in the here and now

This, as opposed to people who are offering commentary in line with what their job is, and who have no stake in the issue. By contrast, to argue that the South Korean UN chair is an anti-Semite is clearly nonsense.

...yeah, he doesn't sound the least bit authoritative. Good thing he's obscure.

No one said the UN chair was an anti-Semite. I said the UN, meaning the body as a whole, has a history of anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli bias.

Have a look at the brief laundry list this obviously biased (since everything that disagrees with any of your assertions is obviously biased) Jewish group put together regarding the "objectivity" of the UN. They probably just did it because they hate International Diplomacy, though.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/myths/mf13.html

I am also curious how the oh so objective and nary ever wrong or politically misused UN, or at least its mouthier delegates, plan on addressing the issue now that the video tape has been released (at least on the internet and Fox News)? Do their earlier cries of condemnation get a retraction of any type?

I'm going to go ahead and doubt it......and just for the sake of being completely inappropriate, here's this video:

Why should we believe some French minister, who allowed this group to exist for all that time, and remained silent and passive about it until they did something that isn't terrorist at all, and who comes from a country known to be extraordinarily racist towards these people, has any credibility now that he's piping up? Why doesn't anyone else who is closer to the action - a Turk, for example - harbor these opinions?

Straight from the BBC front page:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/europe/10242356.stm

Turkey is a secular state and for over 80 years they've fought Islamic extremism tooth-and-nail with fanatical, fascistic devotion. This is why they were allies with the Israelis for decades until the Israelis decided to deliberately insult them. Why would Turkey harbor and even advocate for Islamic terrorists? Answer me that.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/wor ... 15,00.html

Jubbergun, you need to stop getting your world view from Google searches that pull up political editorials that suit your biases. Go read books about the history of the region and relevant issues (and it's worth noting that several times in this thread I've contradicted you about the basic facts and cited sources because you know only the spin but not about the history or politics of the participants).

This article you posted is a biased misrepresentation. All the negative quotes about what happened are from Israelis or Americans (and some are taken completely out of context). Reading the impressive-looking citations, none of what happened was actually offensive or anti-Semitic. It's like one of those school essays where you write a wall of text then insert random citations that aren't relevant to the thesis to make it look good.

Of what's represented in that article, what do you see done that was morally incorrect or offensive? Answer me that.

Also - how does anti-Semitism creep into, or manifest itself, in the UN? Who in the UN is anti-Semitic? Do you even know how the organization functions or how resolutions are made?

You don't get to label an individual "obscure" and then prattle on about what he may or may not have "remained silent and passive" about as if you are somehow an authority on the gentleman's public commentary. Perhaps you need to stop getting your world view from BBC stories that are written by journalist who share your own biases. Maybe, given your usual position about how generalizing about people is inappropriate, you could stop labeling whole populations of people, like the French and Israelis, as racists.

Everything that disagrees with any of your assertions is obviously biased. You can only make that argument so many times, regardless of whether or not you feel it's legitimate or not, before it becomes a yawner and a cop-out. This should be apparent since I even predicted your response. You wore the tread off those tires sometime around the beginning of 2009. Further, you don't get to chastise anyone for their choice of sources when everything that informs your world-view comes from the same few European news sources.

Jubber

"The relationship between Ankara and Jerusalem has been souring for some time. Since Israel's invasion of Gaza in early 2009, Erdogan's conservative Muslim government has found it increasingly difficult to explain his country's special relationship with Tel Aviv to the Turkish public. The thin-skinned Turkish prime minister never got over being left in the dark by Israel about the planned Gaza offensive, and was angered by what Turkey saw as Israel's rejection of all Ankara's attempts at mediation in the peace process."

"Footage of [Israeli Foreign Minister] Ayalon urging journalists to make clear the [Turkish] ambassador was seated on a low sofa, while the Israeli officials were in much higher chairs, has been widely broadcast by the Israeli media.

He is also heard pointing out in Hebrew that "there is only one flag" and "we are not smiling". In an interview with Israel's Army Radio on Tuesday, Mr Ayalon was unapologetic. One Israeli newspaper marked the height difference on the photo, and captioned it "the height of humiliation". "

""I do not think I will be coming back to Davos after this because you do not let me speak," [Turkish Prime Minister] Erdogan shouted before marching off the stage in front of [Israeli President] Peres, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and an elite audience of ministers and international officials.

Mr Erdogan later complained that he had been allowed to speak for just 12 minutes compared with 25 for Mr Peres.

"I did not target at all in any way the Israeli people, President Peres or the Jewish people," [Erdogan] said. "I am a prime minister, a leader who has expressly stated that anti-Semitism is a crime against humanity.""

With regards to Turkey being left in the dark by the Israelis, it's worth noting that the Israelis did exactly the same thing with the bombing of the US Marines barracks in Lebanon, an event that they knew would occur but chose to keep silent about because they did not feel they had to share information with their strongest ally, and it got dozens of our own soldiers killed. And so now another ally is angry in turn for the same reason.

So you think the israelis did this for absolutely no reason whatsoever?

You are asking me to prove a negative.

What's on the table is, they did these things, to an ally of many decades, that is clearly not anti-Semitic, after having behaved in the same way in the past towards the US. If there's more to it than that then show some evidence.
