I'm sorry, I should have been more proactive in letting it be known that I was serving my own goals. I thought that was obvious given how often I actively encouraged others (hell, wrote a book) encouraging others to do the same.

Back to the topic (I think..what is this thread about again?) this legislation is definitely a good thing. I have had a drug test for every job I've ever held. I was drug tested to get into this nursing program. I know people in my program smoke, but they do their work, never show up to class or clinical high, and they keep decent grades. And they *gasp* quit smoking for months to pass the drug test, not try to cheat it with a cleanse.

I've started hanging out with a new group of friends. My group of friends prior to getting into nursing school were all varying levels of addicts. Every single one of them smokes cigarettes. They smoke weed, one of them even ruined a 2.5 year relationship by refusing to quit because he "needed it to be myself". They're all off across the state this week taking ecstasy and LSD at an anime convention. They don't drink anymore because it's doesn't fuck them up as much as they'd like to be fucked up. Every single one of them is jobless. None of them are in school. And I know a few of them are on welfare. One has a kid and tried to get a job, but got turned down because she smokes so much weed that even a cleanse couldn't clear her out. I took my kid sister to play with her daughter once, walked in and the house reeked of pot (which I am 90% sure I'm allergic to and get physically sick just from the smell, and she knows that). Never again.

This is not to mention being on campus in Daytona at the community college. I've overheard many conversations of girls mentioning how they can't wait to get knocked up so they can stop working and get welfare, or happy they're knocked up for the umpteenth time because they get a bigger check. It's also great to see them go in and buy all fresh, organic produce and meats because they have copious amounts of food stamps and can buy whatever they want. But they drive a beater, their kids are wearing dollar store flip flops, and their eyes are completely glazed.

And I bust my ass in school, physically and mentally exhausting myself just to try to get a decent job, live off ramen noodles, and the money I make will pay for them to do all this.

No thanks, I'll pass. Because I've lived on welfare growing up, I know what it's like to truly need help, and I've seen how my mom has struggled since they took it away - because permanent social security disability is too high of an income at 8k a year to get assistance. And yet they're living the high life and party every night. How's it fair the way it is now?
