If I was a conspiracy theorist I might say this is purposefully done to keep more people on government money because people getting paid government money are more likely to vote to increase the amount of money the government collects and spends.

But being who I am I'm just going to say it's asinine.

The government itself is asinine.

People on welfare don't vote. Even if they did who would they vote for?

Does cashing welfare checks really make it more likely that anyone will vote for a certain politician?

People on welfare certainly do vote. And yes, they're going to vote for any certain politician who's promising to make those checks better, coming in longer, and easier to obtain.

Someone obviously doesn't know about "walking around money," or misses the cheesy human interest stories on election days about the buses bringing old folks and the poor to the voting booth.

Here's the thing about voters.

They are generally stupid, lazy, and selfish.

It's why people love the idea of raising taxes and increasing hand outs. Why work hard for your own money when you can just have some free money from people who were smarter and better than you at life and therefore became wealthy (trust fund babies notwithstanding)?

Because a man who earns his own money is his own man.

If poor people voted, our government would be far more into handouts than it is now. Compare what we offer to the UK/EU.

If poor people voted, foreclosure would be a dead letter.

If poor people voted, there wouldn't even be a debate about taxing the top .5%, or wealthy corporations raking in billions a year.

If poor people voted, the South would be solidly Democratic every year because there are so many poor blacks who are basically guranteed Democratic votes (when they show up).

If poor people voted, turnout would be higher, for the simple reason that the well-to-do are a minority and the middle class is disappearing.
