Namely, these select members.

Fuck you.
That is all.

I concur.

Better a decision that I disagree with than no decision at all. Those people can't work together for SHIT.

Technically they did come to a decision.

They've decided (and have support from other shit headed representatives) to remove the automatic cuts.

You make it sound like Congress accomplishing nothing is new.

Have you ever met the Republican party?

It's not their inability to come to terms what I'm really mad about, that's just disappointing. It's the removing of the automatic, across the board cuts that were part of the debt ceiling deal that makes me want to punch a baby.

The Blues decided cutting domestic spending was unacceptable, the Reds decided that cutting defense spending was unacceptable. So all together they've decided that they its better to cut nothing to save the spending dearest to them.

I'm not surprised they didn't come to an agreement. I'm surprised they are going to go out of their way to the stop the trigger. It's a big dick slap to the face.

Both sides could cut spending significantly and still operate functionally.

It's all about stretching dollars and making what you have last.

I don't understand how people can make ends meet living paycheck to paycheck, but our government somehow can't manage much larger sums of money (and much larger expenses, to be fair) with more reasonable judgment and discretion.

The government takes the mindset that it's okay to be reckless or frivolous and wasteful, because they know they can raise taxes or cut important yet costly programs instead of managing costs.

It's on par with citizens buying an Xbox instead of groceries. Or Nike Air Power Pimp 5000's instead of off brand shoes that last comparably, are comparably comfortable yet $50 less.

It is utter bullshit.

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

Quote:
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months and 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971... Before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

Also:

Quote:
Congressional Reform Act of 2011:

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

I doubt that law would ever pass considering it has to go through congress first and I doubt that bunch is going to make personal sacrifices since they can't even make party/political sacrifices.

1. I agree with no tenure. I disagree with no pension. It's a perk of working for the federal government
2. Sure, whatever.
3. Why does this have a number? It's called investing, and Congress already does that.
4. I agree with disallowing them from voting themselves a pay raise. I disagree with restricting them to the lower increase.
5. This wouldn't be an issue if the United States had decent healthcare like civilized countries. Disagree 100%.
6. Does Congress go around murdering people? Stealing? One thing you have to understand is that barring massive corruption, Congress acts legally because the system is there to cover the asses of the wealthy and the powerful.
7. That's not how contract law works. Either the contracts are void now, or they're valid and enforceable until the terms of both parties are met.

If destruction exists, we must destroy everything.
