This is important. I am curious who here actually eats turkey for Thanksgiving, and who eats things that are edible.

LISTS WILL BE REQUIRED. (I'll start)

Champagne.
Shrimp bisque.
Saumur (white).
Tournedos Rossini.
Saint Emilion 1993 (red).
Green salad.
Various cheese.
Pear and chocolate tart.
Cheesecake.

I went to a family thanksgiving where my momma's cousin (what is that, an aunt?) made a bunch of stuff from bob evans. Saturday is the big thanksgiving I cook. Here's what the menu is looking like.

Everything's made from scratch (except if I say so) and we're feeding 16-19 people, which is why we're doing so much food.

- Green Beans with Bell Peppers and Bacon
- Creamed Corn with Bacon and Lime (From Michael Symon's cookbook)
- Spice-Rubbed (coriander, cumin, allspice, cinnamon, etc) Turkey. We're doing some sort of dry-brine to it, where you rub salt into the skin and let it get absorbed by the turkey over a day.
- Herb-Roasted (fresh thyme, rosemary, etc) Turkey. This one we're doing a regular brine.
- White Bread Stuffing (family recipe)
- Cornbread Stuffing (My momma makes this for my brother. She just spices up the stuff that comes in a box)
- Cranberry Relish with Oranges, Apples, and Pineapple
- Giblet Gravy
- Sweet Potato Puree with a Strussel topping
- Salad (Greens, Bleu Cheese, Sunflower Seeds, Cranberry Raisins, Red Onions, and Balsamic Vinaigrette)
- Some sort of Savory Pumpkin Muffin that my momma can't shut up about.

For dessert, my momma (I don't like doing desserts) is making some stuff:
- Pumpkin Pie
- Banana Bread
- Coconut Cream Pie

I also have a friend who's a fucking master at making cakes who I told to bring me something to surprise us. I'll try to post pictures of the spread when we have all the food out.

EDIT: We're also having a buttload of wine. The only real impressive ones are some Eiswein we got last year on the Rhine and some 2002 Domaine de Beaumalric (idk anything about wines, but its the most french wine we have). I also crack open my baby that I got on my 21st birthday, a 1985 Benromach.

Totally shitty Thanksgiving. We do it as a Potluck with 3 other families, and this year the only things we were responsible for (desserts + gnocchi) were the only good things.

Apart from the wine. Had an excellent Brut Rose Cava, a Late Harvest Riesling, a really nice Grenache/Shiraz blend and a Cab Souv.

I had soup and roughly 7 croissants...then some ice cream...then a pear...and some grapes.

I'm at work, no Turkey-Day crapola for me.

Turkey
Green Beans
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes

Pretty standard, nothing spectacular. My girlfriend moved to a new place on the 23rd so all things considered, not too bad. Just glad to be able to spend time with my girlfriend and the kids :]

Typical thanksgiving, my mother always cooks a big meal and my sister and I come over. She's a very good cook, and her bacon-wrapped turkey is always delicious.

For the future, brining bags are a frightening thing to work with. Having to lug a 18 pound turkey and 2 gallons of water (EDIT: In a plastic bag only supported by a flimsy baking sheet) down a flight of stairs and then position it so it doesn't capsize and cover the entire fridge with turkey juice is one of the most stressful things I've ever had to do while preparing food.
