Quote:
SADDLE RIVER, N.J. - A New Jersey man who overdosed on drugs stolen from a pharmacy is getting $4.1 million to settle his lawsuit.

Scott Simon says he suffered permanent nerve damage after taking Xanax given to him by a former employee of a Ridgewood drug store at a party in 2007.

Simon, who was 17 at the time, claimed he went into a coma and other guests drove him to a hospital instead of calling for help.

Simon's attorney, John Schepisi, tells The Record newspaper The Saddle River resident can't walk without help and has been declared incompetent.

Simon sued the pharmacy for not taking proper precautions to avoid theft of drugs. He also sued the party's host and his parents, along with several guests.

All of them will contribute toward the settlement.

Step 1: Go to party
Step 2: Get handed some sort of pill (Xanax or otherwise)
Step 3: Don't question its dangers...just take it...trust me because it will lead to
Step 4: PROFIT

So many winners in this story.

1) Could the payout make the cost of medicine at that pharmacy increase to cover the loss?
2) Could whatever precautions to safeguard medicine after hours increase the cost medicines at that pharmacy to offset the expense?

It's sad that we reward people for their own stupidity at the expense of everyone else.

This report is basically a blurb and offers almost no substantial information. With a few exceptions, no one should be paying for what happened to the kid except the kid. The host and their parents should get some kind of punishment (community service at a drug rehab/treatment center perhaps), and the kid who gave this kid the pills should be punished. Unless the pharmacy was willfully negligent in the handling of their drugs they shouldn't be punished.

Really, you should have either looked for a better story or ignored this. There is so little information it's impossible to tell what actually happened. The kid could have had a headache and asked for something, his pharmacy-working friend gave him Xanax (that he got from his work after they repeatedly ignored safe-handling practiced because PROFIT) thinking it was funny. Now the kid's in a coma and can't walk. This isn't that far-fetched of a story and is completely possible, but instead you took a small amount of ambiguous information and decided to jump to conclusions.

I suppose I should have assumed I was interacting with the lowest common denominator and added the obvious "if this article is true" but I expected more of you.

Next time I'll just assume you meant whatever you didn't actually type since I should obviously know what you meant to say when you didn't say it.

This reminds me of an incident in MN.

Except it was a 19 y/o and he died on some licit, non-pharmaceutical drug.

And instead of lawsuits it was a ban that was passed just under a month.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if there were lawsuits, but I didn't hear of any.

I addressed the issue as it was presented, then I explained why jumping to those conclusions is a bad idea. I'll keep it extra simple just for you next time.

Guessing it was a negligence suit. Beyond that? Nothing to go on.
