I've been raging for the past hour at how shitty this is set up and how little useful information internet searches turned up. My phone is fucking retarded, and after entering the correct (incorrect according to the phone) pattern to unlock it however many times, it locked me out and required gmail credentials. Every attempt told me "invalid username or password.".

I could not find this solution any where in the seven internet hells. Hopefully google brings this page up in searches. This only pertains to you if you have 2 step verification on (which you should). If you find yourself in my position, but don't have 2 step verification on, maybe try turning it on, and then going through these steps.

- Log into Gmail on your computer.
- At the top right, it will say your name, click it, and go to account settings in the drop down.
- Under 'Security' (which is the first section), you should see "Authorizing applications and sites - Edit", click edit.
- Verify your password.
- Then near the bottom, you will see a button that says Generate Password. Type whatever in the box next to it, then click it.
- A code will pop up in a yellow box, put your username and that code as the password into your phone, and it should let you in.

EDIT: Looks like you have to generate a new code every time.

I hard reset before remembering the 2 step bit, and it didn't occur to me (because it really shouldn't have to occur) that maybe the unlock bit is a whole different app. But I tested it out by fucking shit up and it worked.

One day, someone somewhere on this board with thank me for this. In fact, I'm even gonna sticky this for a week it's that good.

What kind of phone do you have?

I change my pattern about once a week because my nosy 12 year old charge is constantly trying to get into my phone. I haven't forgotten one yet, but in the chance I do, this will be helpful. Thanks =)
