Yeah I know it's been out a while...I'm just close to beating it.
I enjoyed this game...and quite frankly have been surprised that it got such bad reviews. Yes, it has some serious bugs and the graphics are meh...but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I, for one, think gameplay > graphics all the time.
1. Killing Zombies 2. Customizing Weapons many different ways to help you kill Zombies 3. Open world...interesting story/concept

I haven't played the game yet. I was thinking about buying it last week but I'm working on AC: Revelations and BF3 still... and I want to play FFXIII-2 soon, plus I'm getting my Vita on Feb 22... so I'll have FFT, Xenogears, Symphony of the Night and a couple other games to play. Once that list of games gets thin I might try it.
It's pretty much Borderlands + Left 4 Dead + Sandbox?

It was a little too easy in most areas since kick is way overpowered, except the infected, 3 infected will kill you in a second or two.
The bugs were annoying, and the sewer level was some stupid bullshit.
The reload/checkpoint system was terrible. I don't know if you've gotten to the shaman part yet, but fuck everything about that. There's a point where that shit eating fuckface says "stay close, we can avoid a fight" THEN RUNS FACE FIRST INTO A THUG, 2 INFECTED, 4 WALKERS, AND A BUTCHER. I wasn't prepared for that kinda shit, so I tried but he died anyway. Checkpoint reloads to right before that fight and again he dies. Third time I run in first and try to thin the crowd quickly with the gun chick's fury move, only they swarmed me and killed him again. This is where I got pretty pissed. Everytime you reload a checkpoint the zombies respawn at full health, but everything you used stays used. Ammo is gone, deo bombs gone, fury drains. I did everything I could but because the save system was retarded I couldn't go back, I couldn't load something else, and I couldn't kill the zombies quick enough to keep the shaman alive. I spent all that time and had to start over again because of bad design. I would have almost preferred losing the time to a glitch.
Much like Borderlands, I'm sure it's a lot of fun multiplayer.

Here's the trailer for the game we're discussing here...pretty much one of the best game trailers I've seen:

Yeah, much like Dead Rising (although not as bad), the save feature is pretty FUBAR. Though I think damage to zombies carries over after you reload....(maybe I bought a version that was fixed). Because when I'd respawn after getting owned by a bunch of infected, the damage I had done would remain, and any ones I had killed weren't there anymore.
Also kick is OP, but I think they nerfed it with patches.
The same company just TM'd "Dead World" so hopefully their sequel fixes a bunch of these bugs and really makes it better.

When you die and respawn the damage stays, but when the person you're escorting dies the game reloads to the last checkpoint. The zombies all respawn and you're out your ammo/durability.

Purna makes the game extreme easy mode. Her rage is judgement in the form of a revolver and it regenerates so fast when you need it to.
Also having a not shitty weapon helps. I still haven't gotten to 50 but everything I fight in a single player game can't stand up to my weapons.
A man chooses, a slave obeys.

I played 20-30 minutes, and it felt like drably repetitive. Especially when you have to smash every zombie five or more times in the face.
I was told it was slow to start, and that it got better. But video games should never be slow to start. The story can go slow, but the game play should be intriguing and/or fast.
The very beginning should had been you and those other people in that hut with you (or one or some of them) rushing their way to it. That tough looking Hawaiian fuck should have accompanied you afterwards too.
The idea of crafting odd weapons was most exciting though, even if I did not get that far.
"Ok we aren't such things and birds are pretty advanced. They fly and shit from anywhere they want. While we sit on our automatic toilets, they're shitting on people and my car while a cool breeze tickles their anus. That's the life."

Yeah I can see what you're saying that games shouldn't start slow. At this point though, the weapons I've crafted are sweet enough that I can blow Zombie heads off quite consistently.
I guess I think it makes a little sense though if you think about the situation.
Your character is on this resort, and the Zombie Apocalypse just broke out...obviously you aren't used to killing zombies...so it is harder at first. But once you learn about new weapons, new effective techniques, you start just pwning them.
It's even true like this in The Walking Dead (comics). They start out having trouble killing zombies, and individually it's a bigger pain in the ass. By the end, they are all awesome at shooting, using blunt weapons and knives and shit to hack zombies to bits etc.
