I played sooo much Xwing Wars and XvT. It seems like a largely untapped market.

What EVE is to WoW, this would be to the FPS genre.

As far as I'm concerned, the reason the genre is dying is because their haven't been games worth buying and playing.

This is why I'm so let down by SWTOR. The potential for both PvP and PvE in a space combat sim is huge.

I have zero interest in EVE, but is anyone aware of anything coming out soonish or in development?

I would LOVE to see a Star Fox themed space sim, tuned up graphics and depth of gameplay.

There's this on Steam. The guy's making a new one, I think. Alternatively, there's the X3 series on Steam as well. And Freespace (1 and 2) on GOG is the single best non-Star Wars space sim ever made. As a fourth option, there's always Freelancer.

I'm a giant space sim nerd. I think part of the reason it's fallen out of favor is that all the people who liked that shit are older than us now, and they're not the target demographic. Also, good joysticks aren't cheap.

Tuhl, my dad had an air compressor / hydraulic chair a while ago. It was sort of a half finished business venture. I used to play XvT with a joystick on that thing. It was a cheap shitty joystick but it was so fun.

Do those space sims have 'pvp' mechanics and multiplayer?

Evochron has both multiplayer and PvP, as well as pretty active forums. X3 has no multiplayer, and the other two are old enough that there won't be users.

XvT and Xw:A were awesome.

Not as much as I'd like. It's also quasi-realist, which means that while the dogfighting is awesome and fast-paced, the nature of quick-jumps means that you'll occasionally come out of warp at a decent distance from your destination and have to fly manually for awhile.

It's 100% open-ended as well, so you might feel lost.
