It's PRISON! It's not supposed to be a fun, happy place for a lifer. And, we aren't trying to rehabilitate this nutjob. If you wanted a life as a woman, maybe you shouldn't have murdered someone.

On the other hand, prison isn't supposed to be cruel either. I don't know who decides what is cruel, or whatever, but if it is determined that this guy is in some kind of perpetual torment, then I suppose he should be treated as if he had any other illness.

Lastly...$20,000? They're spending more fighting this than the surgery would cost. Do the change, then transfer the inmate to a female prison. Done. This doesn't seem that complex.



P.S. They're removing the wrong head, imo.

All this is really about is these radicals pushing their agenda not out of any sort of compassion but a desire for money and power.

And I don't believe this can be done for $20k (including followup/antibiotics/hormones/prosthetics/etc).
I'd like to see the accounting on that.

I imagine the logic is "spend the money fighting this now to avoid paying for multiple instances of this surgery later."

Makes no sense to me. Asking taxpayers to foot the bill for a $20,000 sexual reassignment surgery for a convicted murderer is just absurd. Shit like this and the defense budget is what makes me dislike the government and taxes.

Elective surgeries should be illegal for convicted felons.

I imagine this is considered treatment for a condition/disorder(whatever they call it), and not a "tits sure are cool, wish I had some!" kind of thing. It's not like he's getting a new nose or botex.

Just keeps getting better. This is what this entire process/case/situation has really been about. I'd be willing to wager that if, in the beginning, the attorneys were informed that this was pro bono, this case would never have seen a courtroom. I like how the press is calling him Michelle and referring to him as "her".

Huh? The lawyers are probably activists themselves and have a sponsorship of some sort from one of those organizations. They knew what they were getting into. Reimbursement for legal expenses isn't unusual (and is mostly championed by right-wing interests because it makes it very hard to sue large corporations).

This is about aggression by the GLBT lobby. Simple as that.
